When will egg collection take place?
When the second phase of drugs is started there will also be regular ultrasound scans which will measure how the follicles are developing. This is completely painless; a probe about the size of a tampon is inserted into the vagina and this will show the ovaries and other internal organs on a screen.
Collection normally takes places when a certain number of follicles have reached 20mm. The ultrasound scans will show the number and size of the developing follicles. Progress differs from woman to woman and depends on how each individual personally respond to the drugs.
