IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ANYONE!

There we were - and so was everyone else. We (SCULPIN) and everyone else (ALL SENIOR BRASS 7TH FLEET YOKOSUKA, MAYOR OF YOKOSUKA, AND VARIOUS OTHER FUNCTIONARYS). Crane was hooked to brow, steam was up, Captain in the sail, sailing list ready to go. Wait - someone is missing. All of a sudden from nowhere comes a taxi full speed down the dock. Brakes screech, door flies open, sailor falls out and staggers across the brow.

Skipper P.O.'D.

Later that afternoon mast was held. Price for embarassing the Skipper? Restriction to boat for duration of Westpac. What the heck, we'll be back in San Diego in five or six months.

As it happens, we are underway for a 60 day run. As it also happens, the sailor in question (division LPO) enlistment is up right after the patrol is ended. He lets it be known he would prefer to be discharged stateside. Hmmm!!

Resolution?

At end of patrol, sailor gets an atta boy from Skipper for job well done and lifts restriction. Sailor reenlists. Face saved all around.
