DON'T MISS THIS WEEKENDS DIG WHEN WE UNCOVER A TOTALLY VIRGIN CAMPSITE AT THE JUNCTION OF TWO MAJOR CREEKS JUST OUT OF SAN ANGELO! E-MAIL NOW! Contact Us
Let's start with some photos of the first Bar - H Ranch dig that we held in Irion County, just outside of San Angelo. This is the first dig that we have held on this ranch. The 80% chance of rain squelched the amount of diggers as we only had 12 sign up! The 80% chance of rain produced about 20 drops! We had great weather! This weeks weather looks great too!
We were not able to move a whole lot of dirt with a minimum amount of diggers, although those that did show moved some major dirt!
Here are some of the finds:
We started early Saturday morning. I had taken my chain saw and started the squares between the main mound and two other smaller mounds. It seemed like the most likely place to start.
Just a few minutes into the dig Mark Petter found the first point!
Marks find appears to be a 6 to 8 thousand year old Gower, that has beveling which indicates that it was used a knife form!
It appeared that we were going to have a good morning, but after some serious dirt moving we were unable to unearth another point! So on to plan "B"! I moved the squares to the top part of the mound and we started to uncover some points!
The first point was promising, then came a Marcos and a small knife. The Marcos was exciting because we know from past digs that Corner Tangs were made by the Marcos people! The third photo is of a beautiful translucent flake knife!
Wesley Richardson pulled out a nice "Langtry?" Then Johnny Kuzenka shocked everyone when this broken Andice came out. We were not expecting a chance at an Andice!
Wes Richardson AGAIN, got some Ooooohs and Ahhhhs when he found this translucent Marshall drill form.
Bill Cox never leaves a dig without at least one good find!
This appears to be a Paisano, an early derivative of the Ensor point. This type is known to be found in the area.
Paul Richardson kept finding broken bird points. If only one of these had of been whole! Also shown is a nice Clear Fork gouge!
Johnny Kuzenka has a handful of artifacts he found. He is holding a great translucent Ensor!
Mark Peter seemed to sit down on all the PAY holes! Gower knife, a Great thin blade and pretty multicolored Ensor were among some of his finds. More are shown later in this page!
((L) Wayne Turley's finds. Look at the pretty flint on that snub nose! (Next two photos) Victor Bergia found this great knife!
Natures beauty abounds around this old burnt rock midden!
Mark Petter found this nice Frio AND a CORNER TANG knife! When the Marcos point was found earlier in the day we knew our chances of finding one had increased!
Left, A Gosset Uniface John Davidson had a great time and will be coming back to this
weeks dig!
Don Fabrygel found these artifacts. One of the Uvalde points was found a foot into the yellow!
We will be opening a brand new "never touched" camp site this week. It is located just down Coons Bluff Creek where this site was BUT it Junctions with the main creek in the area, Spring Creek. It appears that this is a major Camp ground! We will see... when I publish the next TAAA Newsletter!
A funny story- Ed Roseman called a few minutes ago and told me about a dream he had last night. Ed will be coming to this weekends dig and is really pumped up about it as his dream suggests! It went like this....
At this new site Ed had found a Corner Tang knife! All excited he came up the hill where I was checking in diggers to show me the knife. He was all dirty like we all get during a days hard dig! Clinton was there with his Secret Service guys all dressed up in their suits. They had their Limo's, the whole works! As Ed ran up the hill towards me he was pulling the knife out of his dirty blue jeans. The SS guys freaked out and started pulling out their guns at the same time Ed was pulling out the Corner Tang knife. Clinton had a grin on his face (like he always does, said Ed). All the diggers were coming over congratulating Ed on his find really freaking out the SS guys. That is all he can remember, so I guess we will have to wait until this weekend to see what happened! HAHA Great story Ed!
Have a great week! Happy Hunting!
