STARBLAZER

Stairway to heaven

It was Dec 68, Uncle Sam thought I'd been a good little boy so he sent me on a one year, all expenses paid trip to "Hot Damn Vietnam". That year of my youth was spent at L Z English [ Bong Song ] with the 61st AHC. I flew B and C model gunships for about 8 months then stayed at L Z English with 5-6 other guys while the rest of the unit moved back to our basecamp at Lane Army Airfield.

We flew in support of the 173 Airborne, N co. 75 rangers and some ARVN and ROC units. L Z English was in the northern part of II core, close to the coastline. It was a mountainous region with thick jungle and deep valleys and its share of VC and NVA.

In these pages you will find some pictures, some thoughts and maybe some stories. I hope [through these pages] to find some of the men that I served with that year. I only know of two at this time and one of them sent me a picture to put on the site, the other is one of the few black crewchiefs or gunners that I met in my 12.5 years of flying in the army .

Enjoy your stay and drop me a line, if there are any questions, comments, are if you have some pics you'd like to see here please let me know.

Me? I'm Ray Allee, did two and half years in VN. A year with the 61st and a year and a half with C trp {air} 16 Cav in the Mekong Delta flying lohs.
