RSD Hope Quilt Information
RSDHope is in the process of building a "Quilt" that will be the size of a football field when completed.
Here are the exact description from the RSDHope website:
THE "FACES OF RSD QUILT" "THINKING BACK AND LOOKING FORWARD"
OUR GOAL IS A TOTAL OF 1,000 FINISHED QUILTED SQUARES!
WE WANT TO COVER A FOOTBALL FIELD WITH THE FINISHED QUILT!
We want to make a gigantic quilt covered with the faces of RSD Patients and the words they have used to to get them through their battle with this monster called RSD! Each square will be one foot x one foot. That's a lot of squares and a lot of RSD patients!
We chose the name as we think of this time in this history of our disease as a time of great change. For many years uncounted individuals have fought for RSD Awareness, some are still with us and some have passed on. We have made some progress and there is much more to be made, but everyone seems to agree on one thing; we have come to a turning point.
A time for us to think back and at all that has been accomplished, and look forward at what is yet to come.
What better way to do this than with a massive football size quilt with a thousand squares of material with our quotes about how we came through the rain and the pain, and a thousand pictures to match of faces smiling in spite of the pain that binds us together!
So how can YOU participate?
You can find all of the details by going to the following webpage, a full discussion of when, where, who, and why -
http://www.rsdhope.org/ShowPage.asp?page_id=120
And if you are interested, especially if you are a support group, this I a great thing to do together, We encourage you to visit the website and read all the details; but here are the basics;
Here is what we need from every RSD Patient who wants to be on the quilt -
JUST FOUR THINGS;
1) A PHOTOGRAPH OF YOUR FACE - A big smiling face! This is where there has been some confusion. This is about the Faces of RSD so we want RSD Patient's FACES . NOT your RSD area. And remember, this is a positive thing! ONLY RSD patient's please.
We are Looking Forward to a Cure! Looking Forward to the day when there will be no more suffering! Looking Forward to the day when RSD is a household name, when all Doctors and Medical Professionals will be able to diagnose and treat people who present RSD symptoms immediately! So SMILE in those pictures!
They don't need to be computer pictures. They can just be regular ole photo's, like in the olden days, hee hee.
2) A ONE FOOT BY ONE FOOT PIECE OF MATERIAL,
A piece of material that is a Cotton/Poly blend, about 40% Polyester and 60% Cotton is ideal; but no fleece type material please. Solid colors only please!
Choose your own color! The more colors we have the more beautiful the quilt will be. NO PATTERNS. I know kitties and doggies and clouds are cute but not when all mixd up together on a big quilt. So no patterns, no stripes, or spots, just simple colors, all kinds of colors, any colors you want, but only solid colors. Anything besides color will be set aside.
3) A QUOTE FROM YOU, 25 WORDS OR LESS - This is another area of confusion from some of the prior emails. What we are looking for here is something that fits with the theme of "Thinking Back and Looking Forward".
How you have battled RSD and Survived? What has kept you going through the pain and the long nights? Your family? Your Faith? Your inner strength? A combination of all of them? Is there a quote that motivates you? Is there someone in your life that has motivated you and kept you going through the years that you would like to dedicate your square to? Take your time and think about this carefully. (This needs to be mailed to Janice along with your quilt square, not emailed please)
4) A WRITTEN RELEASE FROM YOU It just needs to say
You have my permission to use my enclosed picture and quote for the "Faces of RSD" Quilt.
and include your signature and the date.
If you are under the age of 18, we will need it signed by your parents as well. You can write it out on a separate piece of paper from the quote to make it easier for Janice to work on the project.
Please also print out your full name, address. Please include your phone number and email address in case there is any question concerning the material you chose, your quote (in case we have to cut the length to fit the space, or if something happens to your picture in the mail).
(This needs to be postal mailed, not emailed please, to Janice, along with your Quilt Square, Picture, and Quote )
We also have a section just for Support groups on there so don't forget to check that out!;
We have just added a Question and Answer section as well for things we missed or were not clear enough about earlier. You can go there by clicking on -
http://www.rsdhope.org/Showpage.asp?PAGE_ID=120&PGCT_ID=3090
We hope every group and RSD patient will want to get involved in this project. It could be the single biggest promotion of RSD Awareness that there has been to date and our best chance to get our story in front of the American public.
This is bigger than any one group or individual and we have to put aside any differences and work together on this. Please take this information and pass it to everyone you can, get them to the website where they can get the full story, get them to participate. It is easy to do, fun, and every patient can do it!
You can also find the all of the above information for the "Faces of RSD" Quilt by going to the American RSDHope website www.RSDHope.org and looking at the top section "WHAT'S NEW"
All Packets of materials have to be in to Janice by July 4th, 2005. We figured that would be an easy date for everyone to remember and a day to celebrate Independence!
The current plan is as follows:
The projected finish date for the quilt is August or September, subject to change.
Any questions, just drop RSDHope an email at keith@rsdhope.org
or send an email to Janice if you have any questions paramedic911@verizon.net
Thanks everyone, let's have some fun for a change !!!!!!!
