![]() She opened the bedroom door and realized that the night air would have cooled off by now, so she picked up her sweater as she walked out the door. Looking into the night sky she saw what she was hoping for... the familiar V formation of stars. A night breeze gave her a chill, and she thought to herself, how strange the desert weather was - so hot during the day and then the cold of the night, it must be because there is only one sun for this planet. She heard the door open and the almost silent walking of the man.
"They are coming." It was the voice of Riverdog, the man she had grown up respecting and calling Grandfather in the Native American tradition. She loved this man as her own Grandfather, for it was he and Nasedo that made this life a reality, one that would steer the next generation to their destiny.
"Good, it is time. It is most important now, she will have to be protected from our enemies." She turned to look at him with the largest, deepest brown eyes he had ever seen. She was the best of both worlds; theirs and his... Nasedo was wise about one thing, trusting his people with the essence of this woman, a true guardian of her people.
"What about the other one?"
"He is safe for now, no one knows of his importance yet. The time will come when this will change though. She is the one to worry about now."
The car, what color was it now, drove silently down the road, taking them home, home to Roswell. Kyle was driving this time, freeing Max to ride in the passenger seat, Liz sat directly behind him so she could sit next to the baby. "I Shall Believe" played softly in the tape deck.
"We're almost there now” Kyle said, trying to break some of the silence.
"Okay, it just seems so strange to be coming back this way." Liz sighed and leaned her head against the window, staring out it. With a slow wipe of her hand, she removes the one tear that started running down her face.
Max, sensing as he always does, his wife's need, picks up her hand and kisses the palm of it.
"Everything will be all right, this won't be for long." But as he says this, he exchanges worried looks with Kyle, because they both know this could only be the beginning.
As they drive, the haunting reminder of the pod chamber looms in the distance. The trio all have mental flashes of what that spot has meant to them... destinies denied, the Granilith, the passing of dear Alex and the attempt to be taken to a planet that would have meant certain death to Max, Isabel and Michael.
Suddenly Kyle drives down a familiar street, and parks in front of the Valenti home. Ringing the doorbell, they wait for an answer. Suddenly Jim Valenti is standing there, smiling at the group, then he grabs Kyle into a bear hug. Laughing and crying at the same time, father and son erase the time that has separated them.
"Oh my God, it is so good to see you all!" Jim says as he grabs Max and Liz in the same fatherly hug that he gave Kyle. Then he sees the car seat, in it the real reason for their return. The special person they would be entrusting to him.
"Is that the surprise?" he asks just as Kyle starts laughing.
"Hey Dad, did you get a new decorator?"
Jim turns his head to look at the wall in question, turning beet red.
"Yea, that's another reason I'm glad to see you... I don't know what to do with these damn powers! All I did was think about moving the thing, and the next minute, it was in the wall!"
Max and Liz peek around the corner to see just what the problem was and start laughing so hard they almost drop the baby. Just as they do, Jim spins around, they look at each other and try to stop, but then they all explode.
"Well," says Max, walking to the wall and placing his hand on the chair. It was embedded into the wall, two feet above the floor, all four legs no longer visible. "I've never seen powers go so crazy since the time Kyle sneezed and Michael's pants fell down."
Jim turned and looked at Kyle, envisioned the scene, and just shook his head fearing he would lose it again.
"We want to thank you, Jim, for doing this. We can't go to our parents; they would never understand the danger in what might happen." Max had grown slowly more somber. "Hopefully this will be over in a short time; we must protect our daughter from what might come."
"You know Kyle and I will protect her with our lives, she'll be safe here." He smiled at the baby, so much like the two of them. The dark brown hair, almost black in color, matched her mothers... she would break some hearts one day. "If you think it will be safe, I'll have your parents come here to be with her... they would never forgive me for not telling them."
"They must know that we came to you because you know what to expect..." Liz says as she hands the baby to Max. It was so unfair, first he loses Zan and now he must be parted from their beautiful daughter. "That it wasn't anything against them... they just have to understand..." She feels the tears starting to come again. Max puts his arm around her, seeing flashes from the past: the white room, Tess, her changing, fighting Clayton Wheeler while he controlled Max's body, graduation.
"I'll make them understand. They know what you mean to me. After all we've been through, I feel almost like your father too."
The doorbell rings, they all jump, no one was expected. Kyle hesitates, looking at the remainder of the group, shrugs and heads for the door. Max motions for Liz to take the baby, nods at Kyle to answer the door.
Kyle goes and opens it. "I think this is for you Max."
Max looks at Liz and Valenti and walks over to see who it is...
"You must come with me and bring the baby.... this is important." It was Riverdog
