![]() "Isabel, what have you done?”
"Cool, huh?" She takes her hand and starts flipping it through her flaming red hair. The girls are all standing there in black leather pants and wearing what looked like "Pink Lady" jackets, right out of "Grease”. Suddenly Max realizes that Liz is now a blonde, her hair a little bit shorter and curlier, looking, he sees they all have used enough hairspray to make any bopper proud. He slowly starts walking around them. Isabel, taking advantage of the guys being distracted, puts her hand on Max and Kyle's back. Unknown to them, she changes their clothes into tight jeans, white t-shirts, black leather jackets and black boots; and their hair has become greased back.
"Max...Max?" Kyle says as he points at their new look.
"You're turn Michael..." Isabel says, grinning, as she starts to approach Michael.
"You..." Pointing at Isabel. "You stay away from MY hair, none of that greasy kid stuff for me! And if you call me a party poop again, I'll...I'll, I don't know what I'll do, but it won't be pleasant!"
"I don't know, the blonde thing is well, kind of hot..." Max walks over and turns Liz's face up to his. "You could probably keep it you know..." He starts to grin.
"You think so? Maybe..." She acts like she's definitely considering it. Max starts to panic, thinking he'd taken the little joke too far; he wanted Liz, his Liz to look the way she was supposed to. This new look was okay for a day or two but not permanently "Suddenly she punches him in the arm, "Kidding." He grabs her and gives her a quick kiss.
"Well, we're burning daylight, gang. It's party time!"
They arrive in town, get out of the van, and start looking around. It was set up like a small carnival, food booths and rides. As they start looking around, trying to decide where to start, Michael sees a little boy and his parents at a game booth; the little boy is trying to pitch a ball into a glass holding a goldfish The ball hits the lip of the glass and falls on the ground. "Come on son, we'll try again later." The little boy nods, sad, and walks off.
Maria tugs on Michael's jacket sleeve "Come on, Michael, they've already taken off."
"Yea, I'm coming."
They catch up with the rest of the group, Kyle starts eyeing the hot dog booth. "How about lunch?"
Liz smiles, Kyle was always hungry, "Kyle, it's only 10 o'clock, we can eat a little later. Let's go play some games!" She starts running over to where the game booths are set up, just as she does she bumps into two men, a flash sears her brain.
"Sorry, lady” The one man says, he's tall, and creepy looking, Liz's head is beginning to pound.
"That's o..okay." She's trying to keep her balance. As the two men walk away, the rest of the group comes up.
"Are you all right?" Max can see something isn't right, he takes a hold of her arm to steady her.
"I just had a premonition, those two guys, the ones over there, they're going to rob the bank. Someone is going to die."
Max, Michael and Kyle start looking around, they see the two men Liz had pointed to.
"How do you want to handle this Max?"
Michael approaches the two guys, as he does; he bumps into the tall creepy guy. Without the guy knowing it, Michael gets the gun from the back waistband of his jeans.
"Sorry dude." Michael says as he quickly backs away from the man.
"I wish the people in this town would learn how to walk! First the broad now this jerk!"
Max and Kyle are waiting in an empty alley, waiting for Michael. "Piece of cake, the guy didn't even know what hit him." Michael hands the gun to Max. Max looks around and finds an old beat up garbage can and puts the gun in it. As he holds his hand over the gun, it starts to dissolve into liquid metal, then disappears.
"Let's go, the girls are waiting."
It was lunch time, Kyle was happy; he had three hot dogs waiting for him. Somewhere in the square they hear music start. As they walk over they see a '50's style band on stage, people dancing the jitterbug.
Liz, having recovered from her flash, looks at Max "Well?"
"It's a little before for my time...but I'll give it try." He takes her hand and they disappear into the crowd, laughing.
"Michael?"
"Huh...oh." He was distracted by the same little boy, still trying to get his goldfish, still disappointed. "I don't know Maria, it's a little too weird."
"I should have known." Then a slow dance starts to play. "No excuses now." She grabs his hand and drags him to the dance floor, where they find Max and Liz. Liz sees Maria and gives her a little wave and wink.
Isabel watches Kyle eat his second hot dog; amazed at how he could eat so much. "Are you ready? I can't wait to ride the Ferris wheel!" He says as he wipes his mouth after the third hot dog.
"No, you go ahead, I'm scared of heights."
"Huh? But after where you came from..." He sees she's teasing him, grinning. What he wouldn't give to be Jesse Ramirez. At least for now, he could have her to himself. Her "red" hair was shining in the sunlight, he liked it that way; but then, he'd love her if she was bald. "Stop it Valenti!"
"What? Did you say something?"
"Yea, I said let's go!" He grabs Isabel's hand and they get on the Ferris wheel. About the third trip around, Isabel starts to notice that Kyle was getting a little green.
"Kyle, you aren't going to be sick are you? I mean three hot dogs, and a Ferris wheel ride don't always go well together."
"I'll be okay, I hope." Just as Isabel was starting to get desperate, the ride ended. She helps Kyle off the ride, just as the other couples come up.
"Kyle, are you okay?" Max asks, looking around to make sure he wasn't being watched, he runs his hand over Kyle.
"Thanks"
"No problem, I'm not in the mood to clean up any messes. I'm having too good of a time." He looks at Liz, gives her a wink and a smile.
Suddenly they hear the band again. "One more dance, okay?" They all head over to the dance floor; Kyle looks at Isabel, holds out his hand. "Think Jesse would mind?" She shakes her head "no." She was glad to have Kyle in her life, he was a good friend, someone who was always there to pick her up at bad times, but this was a good time. The best time they'd had in a long time.
The band starts to play "One Fine Day"
"One fine day
You'll look at me
And you will know
Our love was meant to be
One fine day
You're going to want me for your girl..."
And as the band played the couples danced, and smiled and laughed. Enjoying this day like it was their last, because they never knew what tomorrow would bring...
