Liz has been the topic of great speculation as to physical/biological origins and her ability to have "visions."
First, there has been great speculation on many boards or wishful thinking that Liz is half-alien, but what does the evidence tell us in the story as we know it so far?
1. In episode two, The Morning After, a biology slide reveals Liz to have human bloods cells, very different from those of Max whose blood types him as alien.
2. In Rte. 285 S., Liz again confirms that she is human when she snaps at Isabel by saying
"At least she knows what species I am." his was a reference to Liz's mom knowing that Liz, was, indeed, human.
3. In Into The Woods, Liz is coming down with a cold and reacts to illness in pretty much the same way as all humans do. When Michael falls ill in The Balance, we see an entirely different set of reactions.
So unless the writers plan to show us anything different, so far Liz is 100% human.
The Nasedo has told Michael "Everything that you can do is human" (The White Room). That means all our favorites podsters powers derive from a human source. Therefore, we need to look at humans and define those powers/visions in human terms.
From a scientific point, humans use only about 10% of their brain's capacity so that gives our podsters and humans alike unlimited potential. While our podsters have had a scientific IV push to maximize their human potential, our human friends have had to rely on basic human evolution ... that is, expect for Liz.
So ... what makes Liz different from the rest?
Alien intervention. And I have to give credit to Alastriona who said it before me. When Max saves her in Pilot, then later tries "to reverse the connection" in The Morning After, he awakens her psychic abilities ... her ESP. But let's take it one step further. He not only awakens these abilities, he seems to have ACCELERATED THE GROWTH of these abilities. It now takes only the touch of an arm to bring on a "vision". What more lies ahead? Much more I'm sure.
And here I'm going off the deep end of what ifs ... something that goes back to Leaving Normal. I am now leaving normal.
Has anyone ever thought about Liz's grandmother at all? Did it ever make you wonder when her "astral self" or "ghost" says to Liz: "Promise me one thing ... that you'll follow your heart WHEREVER it takes you."
I keep thinking ... is she trying to tell us something?
The Parkers represent four generations of Roswellian families: Liz, her father, her grandmother, and her great-grandparents. That means her grandparents and great-grandparents would probably have been alive before, during, and after the crash.
And here's the big question: Where and how did the aliens get the human DNA to mix with alien DNA?
Is Liz's family involved from the beginning ... a history known to Liz's grandmother, but sworn to silence as Liz has been sworn to silence? Did they somehow provide the human DNA and that's why Liz and Max have this "special connection?" And could it possibly explain why Liz could see the crash as if she were one of the occupants?
Are there parallels that Liz's grandmother sees and recognizes that Liz can't? "You remind me of me at your age."
Here's the what ifs:
What if there's a biological war going on in outer space...
What if Liz's grandmother is an alien abductee (and keep in mind that Liz's grandmother would probably be about 17 at the time, the same age as Liz today)...
What if Liz's grandmother is on THE SHIP that houses the remains of Max, Michael, Isabel, and Tess...
What if the aliens make a deal with Liz's grandmother for some of her human blood because they know it's the only way to save our podsters...
What if they mix the essence of Max, Michael, Isabel and Tess with the human DNA of Liz's grandmother and create the pods...
What if, as they return to earth, their ship is attacked and crashes to the earth ... back in Roswell, NM?
What if Liz's grandmother and the Nasedo hide our podsters in The Pod Chamber before he is captured ...
What if Liz's grandmother is the one who finds the Nasedo a safe place to hide after he escapes the FBI's Special Unit...at the Indian reservation...
What if Liz's grandmother had a connection to Atherton ...
What if Liz's grandmother documents this information in a journal ...
Then what does it all mean and what does it explain and where does it take Liz and Max?
1. It means that there is a blood connection between Liz and our favorite podsters and maybe that explains part of the "special connection" between Max and Liz.
But how would we know if it were true? Two possibilities.
A. While working for the congresswomen, Liz is required to pass through a metal detector test for some conference, campaign speech, or what not. Liz fails the metal detector test. Why? Either the bullet is still intact in her body from when she was shot and/or as a result of Max's healing, there are traces of CadmiumX or some other substance that triggers the metal detector alarm.
She's taken into custody by the FBI who run a standard background check. They learn about the Crashdown incident and the FBI transfers her to the special unit to run a battery of medical tests which of course brings Max to the rescue. In the meantime, a DNA screen is run, certain patterns trigger a technician's memory. He/she pulls out Max's DNA test. There are strikingly similar patterns. The congresswoman Vanessa wants to know why.
B: In the course of a biology experiment at school, they do a genetic DNA test. Since Liz and Max are lab partners, it's safe for Max to take the test. When Liz begins to analyze the results, she makes the connection that there's more than a psychic connection between them.
C. Her grandmother's journal.
2. Because Max is theoretically "in pod stage", maybe Liz is reliving the experiences of her grandmother! Remember that Liz does not see who the person is in her visions, but only this unknown person's viewpoint. I've ruled out the Nasedo because all her visions with the Nasedo are B&W, and THESE visions were in color so they must come from Max or from SOMEONE ELSE.
3. That, as a reward, Liz's family would receive some gift of favor ... a possible marriage to a royal member of the family? Max? Wouldn't that just frost Tess!
4. When Max makes it possible for Liz and her grandmother to communicate, does Liz's grandmother KNOW who Max is? Could Liz's grandmother, at her deathbed, be nudging her into a future, a destiny that may have already been promised?
5. And now that Liz's grandmother is dead, there is a probate to deal with ... so, it's a year later and the probate court should just about be done. Wouldn't it be interesting if Liz's grandmother wills her a set of keys ... some ordinary, some not so ordinary, but one of them unlocking a journal that is hidden ... that Liz must find before someone does. And what do the other keys unlock?
What if ...
Be there tonight at 9 p.m. and really find out what's going on!
