![]() This is part of a continuing story. If you have not read part I, you need to read it first. Search under Who Am I: Part I or under Momo for author. You may also want to check storyline Max and Liz: Parts I & II for additional background info as this is kind of a sequel to "Who Am I?"
This is NOT a transcript of an actual episode, but merely a fictional story. What I do is merely take threads of the existing stories and build new ones and try to stay as close to what we know about the characters. Enjoy!
Max and Liz are staring at a strange, beautiful woman. She draws closer to Max and Liz, but studies Liz carefully. There is something oddly familiar about her, Liz thinks. The woman states again, "My name is Serena." Liz says, "Serena, like in the scientist Serena." The woman smiles and there is a glint in her eye. Max turns to Liz, surprised. "You are like Claudia in your mind. You are gifted." "But how, why? What are you doing with my grandma's book?" "She gave it to me," Serena says. "But that will have to wait. We need to leave now. But these are yours." Serena is holding a satchel and extends it to Liz. Liz looks at the bag, not sure whether or not to take it. "Please," says Serena. Liz looks at Max and he nods. Liz takes the bag cautiously.
"Something's wrong," says Maria. "They should have been back by now. The rest of the gang is standing around the Granilith. "Maybe we should look for them," says Isabel. "Max will come," says Tess. "He's okay." And, at that moment, the exit opens and Max and Liz followed by Serena enter the room. "Who's she?" says Michael warily. "This is Serena," says Max. "She's here to help us get back." "What about this ship, where are we? Why's it so important that we're here?" says Michael. "We haven't got time to discuss it here." "Why not? It's not going anywhere." "That's the point. It's rigged to explode. We need to leave ... now." Serena is opening a panel and extracts five crystals. She hands one to Liz and drops the other four into Liz's satchel. "Put this one in the Granilith." Liz does so. Time is critical. The Granilith whirrs into action. The room brightens and its so bright, the gang can't see what's going on. Then as quickly, it's over. Their eyes are adjusting to the dimly lit room. They are back in the pod chamber. Back in Roswell. There is no sign of Serena. "Where did she go?" asks Isabel. "She was standing right beside me on the ship." "Maybe she had to remain behind," says Alex. "What does this all mean, Max?" queries Tess. "I don't know, but maybe you can," Max says turning to Liz. "I'm so confused," she returns. "You're not the only one," said Maria. Kyle spouts some Buddhist quote. Max takes the crystal out of the Granilith and hands it to Liz. Liz shakes her head. "No, you hold it. ... Ah, I don't think I can touch it right now." Max nods. "How long have we been gone," asks Tess. "I don't know," says Max. Liz looks at her watch. "This can't be," she says. "Only five minutes have passed." "We'd better go," says Isabel. "Let's meet at the Crashdown." They all agree and leave. Serena emerges from the shadows.
It's the dinner crowd at the Crashdown. The restaurant is heavily packed. They're all noshing down food except for Maria and Liz who are working. Michael is telling Max about the map. He looks to see if anybody is close by, then spreads it all on the table. "I think this leads to home," he says. "How do you know?" questions Max. "It's a gut feeling. You know, if we check this against the writing in the cave, maybe I can figure it out." Max is watching Liz. Tess is watching Max. "What good does the map do you if you haven't got a way to get back," asks Kyle. "It's not like you have the Millennium Falcon parked outside," says Alex. "Max," says Tess. Max turns to the group. "But it might give us a clue to who we are. Tess, you said something about memory recollection techniques. Can you tell us ... show us how?" "We need to be somewhere private." "We could meet at Michael's." She looks at Michael, Isabel, and Max. She's slightly uncomfortable, but nods her head. "Good," confirms Max. "Tomorrow night." Tess nods, "Tomorrow night." Max turns to watch Liz who is explaining menu choices to some out-of-towners. She is smiling, but he knows she's thinking about something else.
Something else is in Liz's bedroom. It's late that night. The Crashdown's closed, her homework done. Liz is curled on her bed looking at the two unknown gifts ... the package her dad had given her and the satchel Serena gave her on the ship. She is holding the copy of "The Once and Future King" in her hands and rippling the pages slowly. There's a rap at the door. She turns toward the door. "Come in," she says. "Honey, are you still up?," says her dad. "Tomorrow's a school day. You need to get some sleep." He spots the package on the bed. "Do you want me to stay." "No, no, I'm fine," says Liz. "I've just been so busy today... " her voice trailing off. Her dad nods. "I just wanted to have a look by myself." "Okay, we're here if you want to talk." Liz nods her head. "Okay?" he asks. "Yea," she confirms. Her dad closes the door and she pulls the package into her lap.
Max is in his room. He can't sleep. He keeps thinking about Liz, about how she knew about the Granilith, how she seemed to know about Serena. He felt as close to her and as far apart from her as he has ever been. But he knew that she was wresting some problem of her own. He wanted to help, but he didn't know how. Maybe if he talked to her. ... He pulls on a shirt and climbed out the window.
Liz pulls on the string holding the package together. It unties easily under her fingers and slowly she opens the corners and spreads the contents out. Her birth certificate is there, but there's another. She picks up it. It's the same day as hers, same parents, same time, no ... not same times, minutes earlier, different name ... Rose. A twin? She was a twin? But why would her parents keep that from her? That didn't make any sense. If she had a twin who died, then there's no point in ... IF she died .... Was there a death certificate? She fumbled quickly through the papers. No death certificate. Did that mean she had a sister ... somewhere, alive? She was more confused than ever. Then she saw the folder ... Medical records of twin girls, The Parkers. She slowly opened the file. Two perfectly formed girls, both showing abnormal brain activity ... Abnormal brain activity? She raced through the files. No, she thought, it can't be. It just can't be. But it was here. She was reading it. When she looked up, Max was standing at the window.
"Max, what are you doing here?", she said. "I was worried about you," he said. "I wanted to make sure you were okay." "I don't know, so much has happened." He nodded. "Max, I have a sister, a twin. I never even knew she existed. I have to go to Phoenix." "Now?" Liz nodded.
They were in the jeep, riding across the desert, on the way to Phoenix. The air was cool, in sharp contrast the warm day. It felt good on her face, sort of slapped her back into reality. She looked at Max as he was driving. He turned and smiled and her heart raced a little. She even managed a smile. "How did you find out," Max said, "... about your sister." "You know that package my parents gave me?" Max nodded. "They're medical records. It seems we're not quite normal. My sister is in a mental hospital." "But you're fine," said Max. "It's not that simple," Liz said. "Outwardly, I'm fine, but according to these papers, I have unusual brain activity. ... " "But you're perfectly normal," says Max. "What's normal for a human, you mean." "You are human, aren't you?" "I think that's pretty well established." "Then what do you mean?" "As infants, we showed paranormal abilities, you know, esp, that sort of thing. But they couldn't control it in my sister. They put her away." "But you're okay." "For the most part, yes, but ..." "But what? ..." "This psi ability can be triggered by traumatic event..." "You mean when you were shot." "Yes," said Liz. "You changed me, Max. I'm different than I was. I know it sounds silly, but I need to know what that means." "And you think these doctors can tell you." "Yes," she said slowly, "or what might happen."
It's morning and Nancy, Liz's mother, is up getting things ready for breakfast. She knocks on Liz's door. "Honey," she calls. No answer. She knocks again. No answer. She goes in and sees the opened package on the bed. Liz is nowhere to be found.
Amy DeLuca is on the kitchen phone. Maria is just coming in for breakfast. "No, Liz isn't here, but wait, let me ask Maria." "Maria, you haven't talked to Liz have you?" "No, why?" "She's missing." "Missing?" "So is Max Evans." "Do you know anything about this?" Maria shook her head. Maria is genuinely worried. "No, Maria doesn't know anything. If I hear anything or Maria does, I'll let you know." She hangs up the phone and gives Maria a mom look.
Liz and Max are standing in front of the hospital door. Max looks at Liz. "Are you sure you want to do this?" he asks. She nods. He takes her hand and they enter. There is a nurse receptionist in the lobby. She asks if she can help them. "I'm here to see Rose Parker," she said. "Rose Parker has no visitors except immediate family." "I know," says Liz. "I'm her sister." She looks at Liz. "I'll have to check with Dr. Menzes. "You do that," says Max. A few minutes later, a fifty-something doctor enters. "You must be Liz Parker," he says and extends his hand. "Yes," she says, "and this is my friend, Max Evans." "Mr. Evans," he says and shakes his hand. "I think I would have recognized you even if I hadn't seen you. You bear a striking resemblance to your sister. You're very pretty." "Thank you," says Liz. "About my sister..." "Yes, I'm afraid she wasn't as lucky as you. We've never been able to get into her state of mind. Your mother tried all sorts of therapies, even unorthodox ones like crystal therapy I understand. At one time, Rose was extremely wild, but now she uncommunicative. She sits, she eats, but she shows no interest in her surroundings. It's as if she's not here, but somewhere else. Don't be surprised if she doesn't react to you." Liz nods. "Let me take you to her now, but you can't stay long." "Thank you," says Liz. "I'll talk with you after."
The room is bright and sunny, painted in restful colors. The room is empty except for a small, petite girl/woman with long brown hair. Liz cannot see her face. She is sitting at a mission table, her hands, palm down on the table, slowly moving straight up and down. Liz looks at Max and walks to the opposite side. She takes a seat and stares at her own reflection. "Rose," she says, "Rose, it's Liz. I'm your sister." Rose looks straight at her, but if there is recognition, she doesn't see it." They sit in silence until finally Liz, who can't stand it anymore, says, "I'll come again," and starts to get up. Rose grabs her hand. Rose is trying to speak. "You ... king ... crystal ... one." Liz is shocked. She looks at Max, who also, has heard Rose.
Sheriff Valenti is talking with the Parkers. Nancy is trying to explain about what happened. Valenti reassures them that Liz is probably fine, is probably with Max and that Max is a good kid and she just probably needed to talk with someone her own age. He tells them that she'll come back on her own, but he'll put out an APB and not to worry.
Liz and Max are in Dr. Menzes office. "I need to know," Liz says, "Will this happen to me?" "I'm sorry, but I don't have an answer for you," says Menzes. Liz nods. "You haven't experienced any episodes through childhood?" he asks. "No ... ," Liz replies. "You have had them recently." "Sort of ...," she says. "Has anything traumatic happened recently?" She looks at Max. "Yes." "And that's when these episodes began?" "Yea, but nothing bad." "Can you describe them to me?" "Sometimes I get these flashes, you know, like when I pick up objects." "It's called psychometry. What are these flashes like?" "Images or series of images." "Do they frighten you?" Menzes asks. She looks at Max again. "Sometimes." "Why?" "I ... I don't always understand what they mean." "Well, you seem healthy enough. You're intelligent, you seem to be handling yourself well. I don't see a problem. But if these episodes continue to escalate and you feel like you're losing control, call me. Here's my card." "Thank you," Liz says, getting up. "It's my pleasure." He escorts them out. "Are you tired?" asks Max. "No, are you?", she replies. "You must be. You've been driving all night. We can stop somewhere if you want." He smiled, pushing a strand of her hair from her eyes. "I'm fine, really. What do you want to do?" "I think I'm ready to go home." "Okay," says Max, putting his arms around her.
It's evening. Isabel, Michael, and Tess have gathered at Michael’s. "Where is he?" worries Isabel. "Nobody's seen him all day. He wasn't home this morning; he wasn't at school..." "He'll show up," says Michael. "You know, Max, he and Liz are always off somewhere." Tess shoots Michael a look. There's a knock on the door. Michael opens it. It's Max. "Where have you been?"
Liz is just coming into the Crashdown. She had Max drop her off a few blocks away so she could think, be by herself, tired as she was. She had some explaining to do, she knew. Her parents, friends were probably worried. And she needed that little extra time to compose herself. She took a deep breath and entered.
"A sister?", says Isabel. Max nods. "This is just too weird," says Michael. "This can't be legit." "I saw her," confirmed Max. "She looks just like Liz." "Rath, Lonnie and Ava was strange enough," says Isabel. "What was she like?" asks Tess. "Quiet. She didn't seem to know Liz at first, but then she said something about Liz and the crystal being one," Max says, carefully editing what was said. "That's it?" says Michael. "Yeah." "Tess, does this mean anything to you?" Tess shook her head. "I just wish we knew more." "Well, that's why were here," said Michael. "Tess." Tess begins to demonstrate a memory recollection technique. Michael tries first. He gets nothing. He tries again. Nothing. "Try to relax," says Tess. Still nothing. He's getting frustrated. "Let's try again later." "Isabel?" Isabel easily slips into the memory recollection. She sees herself, very beautiful. She is talking to someone. It's Kivar. She recognizes the voice. She turns and she sees ... OMG! She's jolted into the present. "What did you see," they ask. "Me." "That's all. "Max, you try," Isabel says, avoiding the question. Max settles into position. There's nothing at first, but slowly, things begin to clear. He's before an oracle. The oracle is speaking. "You have a bride, but no bride." Tess' face flashes before him. "Your present is now ... Your future is here ... You the king, she the key, together one." And slowly Liz's face comes into view." He gasps and is drawn back into the present. "Max," says Tess.
Liz is opening her locker. She's not quite sure she's ready to go upstairs. She's waiting for Maria. Maria comes through the door. "Sorry, " says Maria. "No, it's okay." "You look awful." "I'm just tired. I haven't had any sleep. Maria, I have a twin, a sister." "No way." Liz nods. "It's true. My parents gave me this package and ..." "Is that where you've been?" "Max took me. Maria, she's in a mental institution."
"What did you see?" says Michael. "He looks from one to the other. "I saw my own death and my future." "Come on, Max, what does that mean?" "It means, my future is here ..." "In Roswell," asks Isabel. "I'm not sure." "It's very clear," he said, looking at Tess. "I know what I need to do."
Liz is in her bedroom. It's exactly as she left it. She picks up some of the pieces and puts them on the desk. She's too tired to look at the rest. She goes to close the window and sees Serena in the lounge. Liz goes outside. "I've been waiting. You've seen your sister." "How do you know that?" "Time moves forward and backward, like a slide rule. Mathematical equations, physics, time and space, all one. But you have plenty of time to learn some of these things. What's important is to know who you are." "And who's that?" "You're Liz Parker." Liz gives her a look. Serena smiles. "You're a very gifted human, like your grandmother. Have you ever wondered where we got the human DNA and why we chose human DNA, and why you have such a strong connection to us?" Liz looked at her curiously. "Use your mind and your gifts. Don't be afraid of them. They are who you are. Your future is here ... you are the keeper of the grail, maybe even the grail itself." She hands her Claudia's book. "You and the king are one. That's your destiny."
