![]() "Isn't that ...?" says Maria.
"Yes, it is," says Michael.
"But, who are THEY?"
"I don't know, but there's certainly not from around here. We need Max."
Liz's cell phone wakes Max and Liz. She apologizes to Max as she climbs over him and fumbles in the dark for her phone. Finally, she feels it, flips it open, and answers.
"Interrupting anything?' says Maria.
"Ah, no," says Liz, looking back at Max. "I was asleep."
"Too bad," says Maria.
"Maria, what do you want?"
"Is Max with you?"
"Yeah. ... Maria, what's going on?"
"Michael needs to talk to Max."
Liz turns to Max.
"It's for you," she says, handing him the phone. "Michael needs to talk to you. Maria says it's important."
Max takes the phone.
"Michael?" says Max. Liz sits up beside Max and watches. His face grows serious.
"Are you sure? She was at the cave earlier," continues Max.
Liz stiffens. She realizes it's about Tess and it's not good.
"Find Isabel and Kyle. Stay together tonight. Stay low."
"Stay low?" says Michael, "We need to do something. Something is going down and it's happening tonight."
Maria pokes Michael. She's trying to hear what's being said.
"You're kidding me?"
"Michael, what's going on?"
"Maria, quit it! I'm trying to listen."
"Yea, it's just Maria," says Michael. "How do you know that?"
"So, they're expecting you to find you and Liz at the cave, but you're not there?" he continues.
"Michael!" pleads Maria.
"You can't tell me where you are?" Michael continues, trying to ignore Maria. "Oh, and another thing. Sean was with Tess. ... Yeah, right. Later."
He hangs up.
"God, Michael," says Maria. "Can you give me a clue?"
"Liz," he says. "They want Liz."
"What was that all about," asks Liz, as Max returns Liz's cell phone to her.
"Michael and Maria saw Sean with Tess."
"Sean? What would Sean be doing with Tess?"
"I'm not sure, except that it has something to do with you."
"Me?" says Liz, surprised.
"Well, he does know who I am."
"I don't think he believes that, Max. Maria's mother didn't. I only went out with him to keep him quiet about Brody. He doesn't think you're an alien."
"What if he DOES believe it. What if he wants something more?"
"He won't. I told him about us, that we were back together."
"Maybe Tess told him something else."
"And you think Sean would believe her?"
"Maybe. He could blackmail you."
"With what? Because Tess says so?"
"Well, she has been pretty successful in keeping us apart."
Liz frowns and considers it. Max could be right.
"She's not going to stop, is she?"
"I don't think so."
"Max, the diary ..."
"Tess doesn't know about the diary."
"Sean's big thing is breaking and entering. ..."
"You think Sean ..."
"Maybe."
Liz makes a quick call to Maria and hangs up.
"Maria and Michael are going to sneak into my room and get the diary ... just in case," says Liz. "Don't worry."
She kisses his forehead.
"It's not just Sean and Tess."
Liz cocks her head, questionally.
"Michael and Maria followed Tess afterwards," says Max.
"And?"
"Nicholas is back and he's not alone."
Liz remembers their last encounter.
"What do you mean, not alone? Do you mean Lonnie and Rath and Ava or someone else?"
"All of the above. Riverdog is right. They're back for you."
"But why?"
"Because of me," he says, "and this."
He touches the pendant around her neck.
"I don't understand," says Liz.
"The prophecy ... I remember the prophecy."
He takes the broken piece of the pendant from his pocket.
"I was going to keep this," he said, "in case ... I had to go. ... So that I always had a piece of you near. But ..."
He takes the piece and places it next to the larger piece hanging around her neck.
"... these pieces, they belong together ... as we belong together."
Max joins the pieces together until they become whole and intact.
The moment the pieces become whole, Liz has a flash and realizes the significance of the pendent.
"It's not here," says Maria. "The diary, it's gone!"
"I knew I should have destroyed it last year!"
"You took her diary?"
"Ah, yeah, the first time," he says.
"How could you do that?" she says, horrified.
"I bet you read it, too, huh?"
"I gave it back."
"Michael, that's so .. not done. That's private!"
"Well, I guess it's not so private anymore."
"Sean has to have it. We got to get it back."
She whips out her phone and begins to dial Liz's number, then stops herself.
"Aren't you going to call Liz?"
"No, we'll handle it. If Sean has it, he's got it at the house ... or his car. He's not that smart. I mean, he was in JV after all. He can't get away with anything. He ALWAYS get caught."
"That's reassuring."
"Come on," says Maria, pulling on Michael's arm.
"Hey," says Michael, "we need to call Isabel and Kyle. Max wants us to stay together."
"And do what?"
"Stay low," says Michael.
Maria sees Michael's expression and knows that's exactly what he's not going to do.
"Michael, oh, no ... don't you even think it."
"I've got a plan," he says.
"Does it involve the Jetta?" asks Maria.
