Well, a few days ago, July 19 I think, my good pal Morris helped get a bunch of us
to-geter here in the park, and we'se formed a union, the Newsboy Union. We decided
to strike the next day if the newspapers didn't lower the price.
Let's see . . . Spot Conlon, head of Brooklyn and another one of my good pals, is
supportin' us. (So what if he wears pink suspenders? He's no pansy when it comes
to fightin'!)
Last night Racetrack Higgins led a rally at New Irving Hall.
There was five thousand newsies there! Three thousand had to stand outside de place!
I never knew just how many o' us there are! I guess I'll let Racetrack tell ya 'bout
the rally, since he's the one who led it and everyt'ing.
Well, I can tell Racetrack really wants to meet ya, so I'll let him talk to ya for a
while.
