I'm the one they call Kid Blink. Why? Well, I'm blind in one eye, so I wear a patch
over it. Anyways, Annie wanted me to tell ya about why we started this strike, so
here goes.
Durin' de Spanish-American War, Pulitzer and Hearst, the owners of the World
and the Journal, raised the prices from 50¢ per hund'red papes to 60¢ per
hund'red.
Well, the war has been over for a while, since December 1898, and they still ain't
lowered the prices. We was barely makes a livin' when the price was 50¢ a hund'red,
an' we've got no chance to make one when it's 60¢ a hund'red. So we decided to stop
sellin' the World or the Journal til the prices are lowered.
That's the whole reason for de strike. I can tell you
more about it if you wants me to . . .
