Identifying sexes: The females are slightly larger and have a larger stomach.
Breeding: Very soft water, and a temp of 75F is used to encourage spawning. Use dim lighting during spawning. The female will lay eggs on a flat surface. These fish spawn best in the evening, laying up to 500 eggs. After the eggs have been laid remove the adults from the tank. Turn off the tank lights and possibly even cover the tank to eliminate light on the eggs. This will lower the chance of fungus on the eggs. The fry will hatch after 24 hours and are free-swimming within five days.
Food: Flakes or small live foods like brine shrimp
