Background
----------------
Between September 1912 and August 1913 two wars were fought with in the Balkan geographical area.  These wars not only created the geo-political climate which would drive Austria-Hungary to conclude that subjugation of Serbian nationalism was necessary but would also be a showcase for the destruction which modern warfare would bring to the continent.  These were ethnic, tribal, nationalistic wars fought using 20th Century weapons.

The First Balkan War was preceded by a series of military conventions concluded among Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Montenegro which provided for an allied front against the Ottoman Empire.  The Ottomans, who still maintained possession of Albania and Macedonia, received a demand from Bulgaria for the autonomy for Macedonia.  The Ottomans refused and in September 1912, Montenegro declared war on Turkey.  She was quickly followed in war by the remainder of the allies.  The Ottomans were decisively defeated and ejected from most of the European continent; however, the results were not completely satisfying to all of the victorious allies.  Macedonia, for whom the war was declared, did not emerge as an autonomous state.  In addition, Serbia was angered that certain portions of Macedonia were given as spoils to Bulgaria and that she did not gain territory for a seaport on the Adriatic Sea.

The Second Balkan War is a direct result of the animosity and territorial ambitions, which were not satiated in the first war.  In early June 1913 Greece and Serbia formed an alliance aimed against Bulgaria.  On June 29 a Bulgarian General, on his own authority, made a cross boarder attack on a Serbian position and even though the Bulgarian government professed innocence there was no turning back from war.  With in two weeks Romania, Montenegro and the Ottomans, all smelling blood and territory, joined Greece and Serbia in the assault upon Bulgaria.  By July 30, Bulgaria was requesting an armistice.  Bulgaria lost territory to Romania and Turkey, and Macedonia was partitioned between Greece and Serbia.

The results; Bulgaria is set for vengeance and Austria-Hungary is now faced on her Southern border by a Greater Serbia which is both militarily strong and is also viewed as a champion by the various Balkan nationalistic movements.  Needless to say, the Russians, Germans and Western Powers are all intertwined in the events and conspiracies of the Balkans.  The seeds are sown.

This scenario picks up the action at the beginning of the First Balkan War.
