Background
----------------
Having reached the Western Suburbs of Warsaw in the summer
of 1944, the Red Army waited until january 1945 before renewing its advance
in this sector. the reason for this was partly because the main effort
was being made in the Balkan and the Baltic States, partly because the
Red Army needed to regroup and re-equip before starting on the final advance
to Berlin.
The offensive towards Berlin began on 12 of January while an intense
artillery bombardement prevented any German blow from the bridgehead south
of Warsaw, Zhukov advanced past Warsaw, then turn North and threatened
the Capital forcing the German to evacuate. on 17 January the Russian entered
Warsaw. two days later were in Kutno. Konev meantime took Krakow on 19
January. And in East Prussia Rokossovsky reached the baltic near Elbing.
The Red Army reached the Oder River by ending of March Konigsberg
surrended to the Red Army on 9 april in the War.
