Background
:

The battle for Verdun was initiated by the Germans on February 21st 1916 and lasted for approximately ten months. It was finally concluded in December when the French conducted a small attack named the Battle of Louvemont and the overall battle came to an exhausted hault.. This event of the Great War caused an estimated 700,000 dead, wounded and missing, while the battlefield was not even a square ten kilometres. From a strategic point of view there can be no justification for these atrocious losses. The Battle of Verdun was a war with in a war; a war of nationalistic prestige between two nations.
This scenario starts with the opening attacks in
February and is only designed to simulate the first couple of months of
the battle.

Victory Conditions
-------------------
Reduce the defending fortifications to rubble and occupy Verdun.
The French fortresses and garisson will defend to the end.
Remarks
------------
This scenario is designed to be played in the solitaire mode with the
AI playing the allied side. When played as a PBM game, it is recommended
that German prestige is set to +2.
