What's New
Mar. 7, 2002 As promised, The Instant Messenger links have been added. Bravenet.com is still down, but they are making progress. A new photo has been added to the "Memorandum" page.
Now you can be entered into a contest to win $10,000 when you recommend to a friend.
Mar. 4, 2002 Bravenet.com is securing it's servers after an unauthorized entry into their system, and as such, all Bravenet services {Charlie's Web Counter, Greeting Card Service, etc.} are temporarily not available. We and they apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Feb. 23, 2002 Hello to Cassie's class.
I'm rushing this new version because my daughter's college class will be reviewing my site ( blame the spell checker for any misspellings ). I hadn't realized how funky some of the pages were at lower resolutions until I brought up on a friend's computer. So, my apologies to those of you I previously ignored.
Folksites appears to be up and running as of this date, although any links to it from Cosmiverse.com have been removed from Cosmiverse's Home Page. I never received a reply from plug'ngo.com as to my inquiry about the broken links, and as such I have removed all their banners. I am also attempting to iron out the kinks revolving around the new Bravenet Greeting Card Service that's preventing photos from displaying as options.
Feb. 23, 2002 Note: Folksites appears to be up and running as of this date.
Feb. 13, 2002 There is a problem with certain links which we are aware of. We are contacting the appropriate people and working to fix these problems. If a link does not work, you can try at some other time, when the problem should be worked out. This applies, most notably, to any and all links to Folksites@ cosmiverse.com and to my page, AcmeCo which is posted there. Several banner ads are not properly linked. These will either be corrected or replaced, depending on what the problem is. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Jan. 27, 2002 Well, I tried the embedded program to have the fonts of my choosing display on your screen, but it wouldn't work. So much for that ! I had an original song for the download page, but it wouldn't upload; and I had a special photo for the Memorandum page, but it was too big ! So, I made the photo small enough and reduced the quality so I could post it, and created .Jpg files from some of the fonts. I'm still working on the getting the original song to upload.
Jan. 16, 2002 (Happy Birthday Marina!!! - Jan. 05)
Thanks to Jerry for the heads-up on the typos, all of which appeared on this page with the exception of one BIG GLARING ONE on the title page, no less ! Now we are truly VASTLY (instead of "vartly") improved.
I've tried to cover every contingency concerning my computers, and my files, but you know what they say about the best-laid plans ...
Although not very stable to begin with, my main computer, a custom-built job, started to get even weirder than usual. Finally, it died, and the motherboard was the culprit. I had to sink money into a computer for fixing, that I thought would be used for upgrading, seeing how I had upgrades in mind when it was built. An upgrade was performed, as I stepped up to a higher speed processor.
I had an external Zip drive that I figured could be used to transfer and save my files from the main computer, my laptop [thank God for this laptop], and my harem of 486's. It was a good plan until the portable Zip drive tipped over 45° against the side of the cabinet, where it sits, and ceased to function.
Well I still had the laptop, but it crashed while I was online, [ not at all, an unusual circumstance ] and thereafter would not make a connection. Three different antivirus programs found nothing; neither did Norton's SystemWorks !
Take note: One of the best tools on Windows 98 ™ , [actually two - Microsoft, take notice] are SFC.exe otherwise known as "System File Checker", and "Internet Explorer Repair". I can't seem to find them on Windows Me ™ for some reason. I know it has System Restore, but that should be saved as a drastic measure. It turns out that the problem with the laptop was that certain core Internet Explorer files were wiped out during that one crash and I also lost two or three Windows/System files ! Using System Restore in this case would have amounted to having major surgery to fix a simple cut on a finger.
At least I've stayed away from nasty viruses.
Unfortunately, that was not the case for Folksites over at Cosmiverse.com ! I did try to update "AcmeCo" back in April and found the site was inaccessible due to a virus ! When they finally got it up and running, at first, none of the graphics would display. A visit to the Photo Manager explained why. There were no photos to manage. They must have a real good back-up system, because eventually, everything was back in it's place.
And, I'm feeling much better now. Thank You.
My Two Cents !
So, if I were to go out on a limb and again predict another Subway Series would you still laugh at me?
Note to Steve Phillips, GM of The NY Mets: Yes, sign Juan Gonzalez.
Note to Fred Wilpon, co-owner of The NY Mets: See, above !
Note from Emily Latilla from SNL: "Never mind".
Whatever happened to that basketball player the Knicks acquired a couple of years ago? You know, that guy that would disrupt the team and ruin Knicks basketball as we know it ?
As a matter of fact, whatever happened to Knicks basketball?
I found it a great comfort, when the leaders of our country modified their views of what "getting back to normal" was, following the Acts Of War perpetrated against us on 9-11-01.
Five minutes after the sound of the explosion reached me, while I was lighting up my morning cigarette on the back porch, I knew, life as we know it was forever changed ...
... Much the same way it was, the day JFK was assassinated, or the day Neil Armstrong said, "That's one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind".
If you're old enough, then you probably remember where you were and what you were doing.
With any luck reading this page will have much the same effect.
Happy New Year Everyone.
I sincerely hope this year is better than the last one... or the one before that for that matter.
My apologies for not staying updated. Details can be found on the Notes page.
