REVELL 1:72 ARADO AR-240C-02
'INBOX Review'

Revell's 1996 release follows on from their previous A-0 airframe.  Having not seen the previous kit, I can not comment on the commonality of the kits, although extended wingtips, standard spinners and a ventral cannon tray are features one wouldn't expect from the A-0 Aufklarer.

Instructions are typical Revell with History, Paint call-outs and construction diagrams.  The landing gear is optional and as such, Revell thoughtfully provide the gear doors as a single piece scored down the middle.

The mouldings are finely done, with recessed panel lines, detailed cockpit with sidewalls, beautifully transparent clear parts and a propeller design that allows them to be attached after painting.  The radar antenna are finely done with a circular cross section missing in etched offerings although present a quandary.  My references show the aircraft with FuG 202 or 220 type antenna whereas the kit parts seem more like SN-2.  Given the hypothetical nature of the version, it's a moot point and a whole lot easier to fit than the "verdammt mattratzen" (excuse my schoolboy German).

The kits decals unfortunately fall far short of the mark, being thick and very basic with codes, stencils and national markings only.  Swastikas are naturally not supplied.  Recommendations here go along the line of an aftermarket sheet from your favourite supplier.

Painting follows suit with the details being English callouts with Promodeller references but no RLM numbers.  Light Blue German (I’m guessing RLM 76 here) and Black (22) are the colours suggested however, no mention is made of the light mottle over the upper surfaces.  Once again, find a nice Bf-110G scheme and go to town.

In conclusion, a finely detailed and interesting kit, let down by it's decals.  However, since it screams '1946', I think PD Decals Bf-110G Nachtjager sheets or any other worthwhile sheet would suffice.
