'INBOX Review'

Reviewer: Kurt Plummer (taken from rec.models.scale)
This kit comes in both Italeri and Revell boxings, both originating from Italeri molds.

Short Form:
Good kit if you like the flubber, as I do, shows a lot of similarities with the old
1994 72nd release. Not a good thang with six prototypes flying in-the-since.
Italeri 'cast iron' surface detailing Same ol', Same ol' but responds well to light cleanup sanding and is not as bad as the F-16 by yards and miles.
Poor molding of wings Very thin panels, badly warped particularly on the starboard side.
Poor fit of wingroots No positive height lock (glue like a WWII propjob, from the innerseam with sheet backing). APU panellines are indeed mis-aligned 'if done correctly' to line up the upper fuselage and lower intake trunking at their leading edges.
Iffy Inlet Multiple seams, ledging between cap and trunk. Gap of nearly a mm at aft side when wingroot is aligned properly. Difficult to fix because of some delicate venting on the upper shoulder but not impossible.
Very uncertain fit of 'bubble' canopy. No center seams ala Hase means it almost looks too narrow for scale and this translates to some gaps around the aft side especially. I would recommend canopy-up but for the decalled tub... Possibly the most disappointing element of the show except that Eduard is due with a new PE detail set 'for 2001'.
Incomplete choice of weapons and poor painting guide. Typical Italeri crudeness of ordnance, no centerline or inboard pylons, no advanced gear like BVRAAM/ASRAAM/Storm Shadow.
Colors a jumble of Revell naming conventions/codes (hear I have done my best to help out with MM#'s and real-deal scheme color guides, thanks to Jens Pop/Don Color).
May sound horrific but there are hints to assist in battling through and it is definitely a 'builders delight' because all the challenges are overcomeable and the final bird will be a stunner of decidedly different shape sitting next to all the 'MiG-29 Hornets' and 'Su-27 Eagles' in your lineup.
My Humble Thanks to Burkhard Domke for playing Host... Kurt Plummer
Further addendum supplied by Adam based
on his Revell boxing of this kit (which he also provided boxart of above):
Just getting round to building it, seems like
a well-made kit, very little flash and parts fit well. Plenty of well defined
panel details, but as the plane is itself very "clean", not a great
amount of detail beyond that. Decals allow for the BAe (light grey scheme) and
DASA ("naval" blue) prototype markings. The first production plane
flies this month, so I'm waiting to see if they use the RAF green/grey scheme
before I start painting
