ACADEMY 1:72 F4U-1 CORSAIR
'INBOX Review'

Reviewer: Craig Sargent (rec.models.scale)
Moulded in blue-grey plastic, kit comprises 41 pieces (3 clear). Breakdown is almost identical to the Hasegawa kit. All panels are engraved. Clear parts provide canopy for F4U-1A of -1D canopies and a windshield. Centreline bomb rack and 500lb bomb included as well as standard drop tank.
Kit suffers from too shallow wheel wells (a la Hasegawa) and almost flat (ie no depth) exhaust stubs. Main gear is an improvement over the Hase kit, having separate pieces for the T-shaped links either side of the main gear.
Cockpit is reasonably well detailed with raised details (no decal) - parts are cockpit tub, instrument panel, seat and stick. Sidewalls have rib and box detail. Engine is identical to Hasegawa offering.
2 marking options - F4U-1A, COs aircraft VF-17, 3 tone scheme; F4U-1D, VMF-212, gloss sea blue scheme.
