Aircraft History

The Hawker Hurricane, what needs to be said other than this is the IIC variant with four 20mm Hispano cannons that was perhaps the most widely employed and most useful of all Hurricane models.

Kit Parts

Date 1998, the kit parts consist of raised panel lines with some ‘soft’ detail.  I wonder if perhaps that the moulds originate from an earlier release?  Detail consists of a five part engine complete with separate cowling, a cockpit with five parts including sidewalls and boxed in mainwheel bays.  Clear parts are quite thin and clear, the canopy able to slide open if required.

Options

Options include standard or tropical ‘Volkes’ air filter, a simple 2 part pilot figure and a choice of wheels up or down.

Instructions

These consist of an aircraft history, paint callout, six construction steps and two pages of painting guides.  A nice touch is the inclusion of a number of photos of a preserved Hurricane in an unidentified location for detail points.

Colour Options

Two aircraft are available, a tropicalised IIC from No 73 Sqn, RAF in the Western Desert in 1942, clad in the standard RAF desert camouflage of Dark Earth and Mid Stone uppers & sides over Azure Blue lowers and a night intruder from No 87 Sqn, RAF based at Charmy Down in the UK also in 1942.  This machine has Temperate camouflage of Medium Sea Grey and Dark green over Black.

Decals

Decals are semi-matt in excellent register and include markings for the instrument panel, Type A1 Fuselage Roundels & Fin Flashes for the No 73 Sqn machine complete with it’s unique pre war squadron markings, Type C1 Fuselage Roundels & Fin Flashes, squadron codes and a scroll with the unit’s motto for the 87 sqn machine, serials for both aircraft and appropriate Type B & A roundels for the wings.

Impressions

A nice, big chunky rendition of this Hawker classic.  European or Mid-East scheme, optional parts  and some detail makes for a value kit in my opinion.

Conclusion

32nd scale, Hurricane, not bad detail….  It’s a winner for this modeler and another bargain off eBay to boot.  Recommended.
