Kit: Tamiya War Info Collection (#60749) 1/72 North American P-51D Mustang
Parts are broken down into the usual format for building a bubble top Mustang in light grey and exceptionally well engineered crisp plastic. The canopy is also three piece allowing one to display the cockpit open. Surface detail is very good with engraved lines and etched control surfaces.
The cockpit has received a well detailed fit out with sticks, side panel, instrument panel, rudder pedals and a decent seat. Wheel wells also contain plumbing detail and the undercarriage is also better than average. One of the big plusses of this kit is that it appears the radiator will be clearly visible through the belly fairing, one of my pet hates in other kits (not being able to see it)!
Options are generous with the three piece canopy set as stated above, stores in the form of drop tanks, shrouded or unshrouded exhausts, two styles of hoods and moveable propellor.
Three versions are provided for in the kit - "Petie 2nd"; "E2 S" and "Nooky Booky IV" with a reasonable amount of stencilling on the decal sheet which is in excellent register.
A quick profile check reveals no major flaws in the design or measurements.
Not much more to say, but if first "inbox" impressions count for what this model will end up like then all I can say is go and buy it! Top quality.
