Just a short inbox on one of the latest 1/72 Academy releases - the Hawker Typhoon. Nice kit this one and on opening the box you are presented with three sprues of light grey injected molded plastic with finely recessed panel lines and raised rivets, and one clear sprue with a two-piece canopy for attachment.
The cockpit has received quite good attention with raised dials and gauges on the main instrument panel that looks really good. A bit of an expert's touch will have this panel beaming in no time. There is also sidewall detail molded inside the fuselage halves and parts include seat, control stick, bulkhead and rudder pedals on a floor base.
Test fitting of the major components reveals that this kit should go together very nicely and I doubt whether much filling will be required. Measurement accuracy looks to be well within acceptable limits and I have no qualms. Detail is done nicely on the model and components appear quite accurate in most respects, although the wing appears to be a touch thick. The undercarriage has been molded nicely although it is nothing to go over the top about. Gear doors and the wheel wells receive a touch of detailing which is all you can expect in '72.
Two RAF versions are catered for in the kit and the decals have a nice register and look like they will do the job nicely. Invasion stripes are provided for one of the versions.
Overall it looks like this kit will go together quite well and as normal with Academy efforts also looks to be well molded and engineered.
