AMODEL 1:72 YAK-28PM FIREBAR
'In The Box Review'

Typical Amodel - semi-limited run, large sprue gates, quite a bit of flash to clean off. Basically accurate according to the best drawings available - those in issue 2/98 of the Ukrainian magazine - Aviatsiya i Vremya (available from Tushino Aviapress - http://www.aviapress.com/viewonekit.htm?products_cat_id=AVV-199802)

The kit represent the tandem two-seat 'fighter' variant - the Yak-28PM 'Firebar'

Fit is a bit iffy, there are no locating lugs and the fuselage is a bit banana shaped - it meets in the middle, but front and back are bowed outwards, nothing too serious.

Interior is a bit simplified - floor, side consoles, simply 'armchair' ejection seats, pilots and nav's panels & pilots control column. Replace the seats with NeOmega KM-1 seats.

Canopy is one-piece moulding, not crystal clear, but adequate. Two K-8 (NATO AA-3 Anab) plus two R-3 (Atoll) missiles are provided.

Decal sheet provides markings for 2 a/c - 'Red 57' & 'Blue 01' and includes 6 red stars and loads of stencil data.

Finish is silver overall with a light grey radome and green dielectric panels on fin tip and ventral strake.

Tamigawa it isn't - but it is an accurate kit of an important Soviet-era a/c and with a little bit of work (called modelling) it will make up into decent model.
