Lightning Sensor
A bunch of years ago (your kids now have their PhD's) when I moved back to Florida, I got to re-learn the destruction of lightning back here in the Lightning Capitol of the US. There's been a bunch of versions of this circuit over the last quarter century and lots of good stuff generated through my 40 year association with amateur radio. This gadget is relatively simple and is a neat tool to have around in lightning-prone zones.
The photo in the sidebar is of an advanced version that triggers a total power transfer to an alternate supply when multiple strike energies reach a pre-determined threshhold. Since this requires an alternate power source and a really heavy-duty transfer switch, I'll get back to it in a future page.
