HEMIPLEGIA

Is a cardiovascular disease that affects the blood vessels supplying blood to the brain. About half of the cases survive, but are usually left with a paralysis of one arm and leg on the same side of the body, left or right thus the name Hemiplegia. The amount of bleeding determines the severity of the disease.

Blood is not supplied to part of the brain, and this part dies. Since the brain doesn't regenerate, all the information contained in this area is lost and the parts of body controlled by these cells cannot function. The affected person finds himself in the situation of a newborn who doesn't know how to move, not having the assistance of that perfect computer called the human brain who's program was destroyed.

For more information on the diseases see the National Foundation for Brain Research (USA) page about stroke.

Brain disorders of this kind occur from newborn to senior persons. In newborn it is called cerebral palsy and is thought to be a lack of oxygen during complicated deliveries. It is also known as spastic diplegia, or spastic quadriplegia if all four limbs are affected.

Traffic accidents account for a significant percentage of all cases of stroke. The main cause of ischemic attacks is prolonged stress. Usually, the affected person enters coma immediately after the brain attack. Special medical care is extremely important during this period, otherwise serious complications can occur.

Hemiplegia is not only the disease itself but also the difficulty of daily life. Beside the physical impairment the affected has to support an enormous physical trauma being often marginalized by society, sometimes even by its own family.

WHO CAN GET THE DISEASE ?

Hemiplegia is not contagious, but, according to some studies, a large number of the cases have had an ancestor in his/her family with brain stroke.

THE ACTIVITY OF E.H.A.B.R.

All E.H.A.B.R. decisions are made by the board of executives or the annual meeting.

Shortage of funds and lack of suitable office (at the moment own apartment) restricts our activity. We have no income, we collect no membership fee our only hope are sponsors. Our members are willing to carry advertisements for our would be sponsors on their wheelchairs.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

Hemiplegia can affect anybody!

Therefore;

INFORMATION

ENCOURAGEMENT

HEMIPLEGIA, the underestimated illness!

For every fifth affected means death. Hemiplegia is often underestimated and therefore very dangerous. It is ranked third in , after heart attack and cancer. More than 200,000 Germans suffer a stroke every year and every fifth of them dies as a result. Those who survive remain heavily handicapped or incapable to work.

Stroke is by afar the no. 1 handicap cause and can affect anybody, whether man or woman, young or old. Although the risk increases with age, more and more young people are affected.

But, stroke is not inevitable and has nothing to do with fate; those who know certain things can take necessary precautions and will be able to avoid it for themselves as well as for friends and family members. Be informed! Our organization is at your service providing you with competent advice.

Stroke is a sudden blood circulation disturbance in the brain.

How to recognize the disease:

Sudden paralysis on one side of the body or a loss of strength in one side of the body
Sight disturbance especially in one eye.
Speech difficulty
Balance problems, tripping without reasons inability to estimate distances
Sudden, strong headache

Each of these symptoms represents a serious alarm signal, which should not be underestimated.
Every second in delay can cost the life of the affected!

KNOWLEDGE IS THE BEST PROTECTION

You can fight your enemy only if you know him!

Are you at risk?

Do you:

Against stroke - For life !

Although stroke causes much suffering to many people the disease is still underestimated.

"The Enemies of Hemiplegia" Association emphasizes in informing people of the dangers and counsel the ones affected. According to the latest studies, since 1995 the association, founded by Victor Schul declared war against this disease and its effects. For this purpose the association cooperates with MDs specialized in this disease and other similar organizations from other developed countries gathering information through the Internet

Our motto:

The struggle of life

by G. COSBUC

Life is a struggle- so fight !
With love and passion.
For whom ?
You have your folks,
If you have nobody,
FIGHT FOR EVERYBODY.

Invincible are those who fight with faith,
They know that nothing in the world is in vain,
Beyond their sacrifice and pain,
Time weaves on their holy victory!
