Shelter Resolutions

Happy True Millennium! I’ve been talking to some of our furry friends about the turning of this long-awaited milestone, and they believe that there is no better way to kick off the beginning of this year than making some iron clad resolutions. Since I trust their ideals, I asked them for a sampling of what they have resolved to do, now and always. I think you’ll be interested in their responses, so I’m using today’s column to show their promises:

Ø “I promise to unconditionally love an owner that provides me with food, water, warm shelter, and daily affection!”

Ø “I promise to do my best to obey and present good behavior to an owner who can have the time, patience, and understanding that’s required for me to learn.”

Ø “I promise to stay as healthy as I can as long as my owner takes me for regular vet checkups!”

Ø “I promise to stay warm when my owner keeps me inside.”

Ø “I promise not to run away when my owner provides a tall enough fence and a proper leash and collar.”

Ø “I promise to always try to get home if my owner puts a license and ID on my collar!”

Ø “I promise not to burden my owner, my owner’s friends or family, or the shelter with more unwanted puppies (or kittens) if my owner has me spayed or neutered.”

Ø “I promise to try to understand my owner if my owner tries to understand the way I think.”

Ø “I promise to be happier if my owner doesn’t declaw me!”

Ø “I promise to be happier if my owner protects me from getting pinched, hit, spanked, kicked, squeezed, tail-pulled, or otherwise abused by anyone!”

Ø “I promise that, if my owner provides me with all of these things, I will love my new home more than the shelter!”

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to make some resolutions now, too. If you are interested in adopting a pet that will give anything in return for your love, you can find someone to open your heart and home to at the Columbia-Greene Humane Society, located on Route 66, 1¼ miles south of the intersection with Route 9H. You can call us with any questions at (518) 828-6044. May we all have another wonderful 1000 years!
