SUBJECT: Why do they call it "Insurance?"

A while back, my wife did a little fender scraper. It was nothing more than a shallow scrape about two foot long. The damages were estimated at $285.00, which the insurance company promptly paid. That was fine and dandy, but, our rates went up $24.00 per month for the next twelve months.

Now I don't know about you, but it doesn't take a genious to do the math and come up with $288.00, which is--as you can see--nearly exactly the cost of the repairs.

So, not only have we been paying x amount of dollars per month for the past number of years, but we ended up paying for the damages as well!

I understand that the point is, the insurance company comes up with the X dollar amount to pay for the damages, so that the insured doesn't have to, but ...

Now, can anyone tell me why we call them, "Insurance" companies? It seems to me, the only thing that they insure, is that they get your money!

And what really burns me up, the government forces people to purchase the insurance.
