Diary
2001
Fortunecity came up on one of my web searches and they were offering 100MB of free web space, more than enough for a personal web site. That was one problem out of the way. On the same site there was a link to Trellix and they solved all the other problems. That's how it all came about.
February 2001.
3rd ..... Downloaded Trellix program. Had a quick look.
4th ..... Found exactly the same site I was thinking of doing on the web. Scratched that idea. Still playing with Trellix.
6th ..... Had a look at some Home Pages of other Trellix users. Still keen on the idea of my own pages but beginning to realise just how much time and work is involved
11th ..... Been looking at more web pages of Trellix users and think I am getting the feel for it. Made a serious start.
Holidays started.
March 2001.
End of holidays.
6th ..... Been on holiday but have got down to it now
10th ..... Changed the design of the site, hopefully because it is better and not that I have become fed up with looking at the same pages all the time.
11th ..... I think the change was worthwhile. I won't be trying anything clever on my own but will be adding Web Gems after I publish.
17th ..... Spent a lot of time this past week on my pages. Today it was a couple of hours checking up on links I am adding. Must make sure they are live when I first start and worth visiting. I seem to have been working on this site for a long time and would like to get it on the web but where to call a halt for now and have something presentable to offer?
18th ..... Stopped messing with the links, taking too much time. Have been putting some joke pages in today. Quite a difficult one this as I don't want to offend anyone but I do enjoy a good laugh. The problem is where to draw the line.
20th ..... More pages for Benidorm. It has been six weeks now since beginning this job and I don't seem to be any nearer to getting it on the web.
Decision time. I have taken out sections that I know I can't complete in the next few days so now I can polish off what's left and try getting it on the web.
Reading what I have done so far it seems to be all, me, me, me. Inevitable I suppose as this is a personal site but I don't want it to turn into a massive ego trip for yours truly.
21st ..... Tonight is the night, I think, for better or for worse. Bet it all turns into an anticlimax. 20:30 and offered it up. Straight on to Fortune City's page and clicked what I thought was appropriate and then nothing, zilch. The waiting game now I think.
22:45 Still waiting.
23:00 Into the system OK but doesn't seem any way to load my pages. They have got me starting from scratch again but with a program online and it is painfully slow.
22nd ..... 00:30 Gave up and went to bed.
23rd ..... Sent off e-mail to Trellix for some help.
25th ..... Have been flirting with several different companies that offer free web space but not having much success with any of them. Trellix is so good and fast because it is an off line web builder that I will just have to persevere.
28th ..... E-mail from Trellix this evening and they think it is because I use Gozilla as a download manager that I have the problem. So I have uninstalled Gozilla and that's it for tonight. Will have another go at getting these pages on the web tomorrow night.
29th ..... On the web, on the web, on the web. Everything went smooth as silk and here I am. Well, well, well. Speechless, for the moment.
31st ..... "Weather" and "Touring Spain" added to "Where I Live"
There you go then, roughly two months from downloading Trellix to seeing it on the web. I must say it has been a worthwhile experience and I have really enjoyed the effort. I look forward to seeing what I can make of it now.
In fairness to Trellix I could have been online after 48 hrs if I had just chosen a wizard, written a couple of paragraphs and have been satisfied with that. However, I wanted more for people to have a look at and that is what has taken the time.
