Stamps
I have been collecting stamps on and off for 40 years and had quite a good collection back in the fifties which at today's prices would have been worth a lot of money. Except, I became interested in model railways at that time and there was this chap who had years of back numbers of the Model Railway press so we had a deal. We did a straight swop at face value, stamps for books. In financial terms he got the better of the deal but in interest and pleasure terms then I was the winner by far. I still have all those books and magazines and over the years they have taught me many new skills and introduced me to some real characters in the modeling world, not to mention some inspirational model railways. Anyway, model railways are another story. So the stamps languished for a few years and when we moved to Spain they, along with other stuff, were temporarily stored in my daughter's house, in her cellar. Unfortunately they had a major flood and the bulk of my collection, from Queen Victoria to Edward VII was destroyed. Major blow that. So here we are with a fair collection of George VI and little else. Not to be disheartened though as I have now started a collection of Spanish stamps and found a good shop in Alicante, not too far from Benidorm.
