He sees the mind as being something of a superior being to the body. They maintain a sort of a symbiotic relationship, with the mind loaning bits of itself to the body, in exchange for the body keeping it alive. This then explains why we only use 10% of our brains. It's not that we don't want to use them, it's that our lease doesn't allow it. So we stumble about with our lousy 10%, most likely the least useful parts too--not like we would know the difference, while our brain sits up there and does--stuff. And of course, we can't understand, or even measure, what our brains are doing, because our 10% doesn't have enough power to comprehend that other 90% that's up there doing who knows what.
I don't say I totally subscribe to this theory--I mean, it has it's holes--but some parts are extremely compelling, you might even say convincing. Scary thought though, isn't it? Now, if this is true, what I want is to renegotiate my lease. I'll promise to eat well, excercise, and basically keep myself in good order in exchange for 5% more prime brain real estate. Is it a deal?
