Diet
Pyrrhura's will eat a wide variety of seeds, fruits & vegetables. I feed my birds a standard parrot mix with extra seeds added, which consists of safflower, buck-wheat, hemp, paddy rice, pine-nuts, oats, canary & mix millets. They also get apple, orange & carrot daily. Cede or E.M.P egg food is added in its dry form when breeding with extra niger seed mixed in with it.
The amount of food intake varies through the year so if they are not eating a particular food item you have provided don't assume they do not like it and stop giving it to them, just cut down on it and give them plenty more of what they are consuming. You will find fruit & vegetables eagerly consumed when breeding, and as the chicks get older particular seeds will be eaten first. So the best advice I can offer, is offer everything and watch what your birds are eating, and adjust accordingly to what suits the birds at different times of the year.
Pellet diets have become available in recent years, and some keepers have weaned there birds to just eat this and nothing else apart from fruit/veg. I don't feel this is good for the birds, I like my birds to have the choice of what they want to eat during different times of the year. I recommend if you feed any pellet diets to feed them only as an extra.
