I want to earn your business!
WHAT OTHERS THINK OF US
Perhaps some of you who are not familiar with our plants or service would like to hear some comments from our customers. Please note that some of these folks are from the far Northern areas of our country and many have been customers for years! We deeply appreciate their comments and work hard to EARN YOOR BUSINESS! Our guiding principal is "YOUR GOOD WILL IS WORTH MORE TO US THAN YOUR MONEY.
Your plant quality is unequal. Your bonus plants are very generous. You are the first daylily grower I consider when placing an order each year. Keep up the good work. Thomas Moore ,Ramsey NJ
I purchased from 5 other major daylily nurseries this year and in most cases got what I expected. In your case however, the quality and the quantity of plants received, the bonuses, and shipping condition clearly exceeded my expectations! Nick Hiss, Columbia City, In.
Nicest plants Ive seen and the bonus plants were unbelievable. More than expected. Sue Christian, Beaverton, Al.
If I could only order from one grower-it would be from you. Libby Lee, Clinton, Ms.
You have certainly earned my business! I have never seen such big healthy plants, and the bonus plants are wonderful. Pauline Woods, Vernon Al.
Best bonus plants of any mail order nursery Ive dealt with. Michael Evans, Cincinnati, O.
The plants were excellent and seemed to grow almost immediately. Gary. Melton, Winona, Ms.
The only way to describe your daylily plants is to say they are awesome! I was very much impressed. You sure will get my orders from now on. I have recommended you very highly to everyone. Mrs.W.B. (Sandra) Henson ,Candler NC
The plants looked like they were freshly dug. If you improve your service any more Ill go broke! Terri Jones, Riverview, Fla.
Once again Dave your company has come through with great multi-fan plants! David L. Hansen, Bellview, Neb.
I have always been completely satisfied with the plants I receive from you. And-as a Northern gardener - have always successfully grown all the plants I have received from you. Sharon Rastedder, Mansfield, Ohio
This is my 3rd year of ordering from you. Your quality is still superior. Mrs. Douglas Hutcherson, Greenville, Ms.
Wow! What stunning plants! Thank you again for your great service. You're #1 with us! Larry and Barb Jacobs, St. Albans, Mo.
*** NOTE ***
Generally we use the date of introduction in our descriptions rather than the date registered, the reason being so that you can see whether it is an older or more recent introduction.
NO INTRODUCTIONS IN 2001. I decided to step back and test many of my things this year rather than introducing them. I think it helps to clear the head and allow you to focus on aims and objectives. I will have several good ones next year. The following are last years intros. Good plants but most are sold out. A waiting list on all of them has been formed.
Dave travels across the country to speak at Daylily Conventions
sharing decades of daylily knowledge, entertaining groups with his southern humor
and finishes with an old fashioned Daylily auction!
Call and schedule Dave for your next meeting!
How To Find Us
We did a pretty good job of telling you how to find us once you get to Green Cove, but there is a question of how to get to Green Cove so here goes:
From I-75 at Lake City - get on I-10 East to Jacksonville then go South (toward St. Augustine) on I-295 (bypass) to Highway 17 South (right) we are 15 miles down Hwy. 17 (go through Green Cove Springs - we're at the intersection of Highways 16 & 17 - behind a mostly deserted shopping center) Go through light and look for tire store .Turn right at tire store at my sign to nursery.
I-95 from North of Jacksonville - go South through Jacksonville to Highway 210 (big 76 Truck Stop) then go West (right) on SR 210 to CR 16A Turn right, go l/2 mile to SR l3 at caution light turn left (South) an go one mile to SR 16.Turn right and go across big bridge over St. Johns River. Great sight! Travel sever al miles to stoplight at US 17.Turn left and look for tire store (1 block)
I-95 from South of St. Augustine - go North to Highway 16 (St. Augustine exit) and go West (left) follow Highway 16 till you find Highway 17 . Turn left at light for l/2 block and turn right at my signs at the tire store. Im behind the Cove Plaza shopping center.
You will only find this wee town if you have both eyes open and looking hard for it so if by some chance you still have trouble finding us stop and ask somebody - then once you get into Green Cove most people know us - after all we've been the same place almost 70 years now!
CAST OF CHARACTERS
Dave Talbott - Founder and Chief Hybridizer. Responsible for long range planning, (a joke!) generally wanders around the garden and gets in the way! But he IS now the Dean of Florida hybridizers and has a vast reserve of knowledge gleaned from nearly 50 years of growing daylilys!
Reba Talbott - Dave's wonderful wife and bookkeeper, without her tight rein on the checkbook he would go to the poor house buying every daylily ever hybridized by anybody. (He has never found a daylily he did not like!!!)
Donna Boswell General Manager . She not only gets your plants to you in a timely manner, but she hybridizes, digs plants, pulls weeds or whatever else needs to be done around here to keep it all going. She is probably the only one that can tell you where every plant in the garden is located!
Bob Rose - Bob does whatever needs to be done, including hybridizing.
Misty Martin Misty is no longer here full time, however, she still hybridizes and we will introduce her small flowers. She has some lovely small doubles.
GARY STATION Gary is our fixer-upper. When we break things, stuff dont start, irrigation system blows up we call Gary. Actually he and his tool box visit us every day to see what mischief weve managed to get into!
And then there are our doggies, who think they are human. Toto left us this summer for doggie heaven but we still have Walter who is a true watch dog and Roy, our Lab who, as a watch dog, is a joke! Last week a bedraggled little mongrel that stands 8 inches tall and 2 feet long (with a tail longer than he is!) wandered up the lane and now we have Shorty who is now perfectly at home here and follows Dave everywhere. Like all the rest of our dogs ,he spends more time in the house than out. Misty now works as a technician for our Vet and hauls our dogs back and forth. Walter tangled with a 6 foot moccasin and got bit 3 times before he subdued it and Misty took care of him at the vets . Hes ok now, and hopefully a little wiser, but I doubt it!
WE LOVE GARDEN VISITORS!
We are a commercial nursery and we are able to handle 100+ people a day. You are most welcome to visit us during our regular hours. We are able to dig and package your plants as you wait. We usually have 2 to 4 trained diggers available during our regular season hours. We close PROMPTLY at times specified.
PEAK SEASON HOURS OF APRIL 25 TO JULY 3
OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK FROM 8:30 AM TO 4:00 PM.
OFF SEASON HOURS
8:30 AM TO 2:00 PM MONDAY THRU SATURDAY
We grow some of the latest and very best on the market today. We are probably one of the few Florida gardens that are able to grow Benz, Moldovan, Curt Hanson, and other Northern hybridizers' flowers; we grow many dormant daylilies and we invite you to come and see for yourself that we grow them well. We are growing some of the very latest ones that are not in the catalog yet.
