Ihsan Dizdar
The beginning
He was born in Istanbul in 1925.He started
the
theatre studies in Üsküdar Hakevi(Public
Art
House) while he was in high school.He
was
mainly interested in Karagoz, puppets,storytelling
and Ortaoyunu.He worked with the last
Ottoman
traditional performers. Karagoz Celal
Efendi is
the Karagoz master of him.

The very important quality of Ihsan Dizdar is being the
only
performer who learned the tradition by traditionally. The
drama education of him was on the stages or backstages
of karagoz screens. So the Karagoz of Ihsan Dizdar is very
old and hard to undarstand for young generations. The
words, the songs and the types are never modernized.
When somebody asks why he don't make any restoration in
performances, he says that "i am a museum waiter"

He is also the only living traditional Pisekar(the
imrovisatory theatre main character) and
conjurer.
