The 150th. Anniversary of the Schweizer Bahnen was in 1997. The Swiss railroad system is one of the most challenging in engineering feats. Bridges, viaducts and miles long tunnels had to be built to criss cross the Alps.
Standard, narrow gauge as well as cogwheel systems are part of the train net.
Extremly steep grades and mountain walls had to be overcome to create
one of the worlds most beautiful railroads. Job well done SBB-CFF.
Here are a few pictures of the older of the magnificent machines that started
it all beginning in 1847.
Happy 150th. Anniversary! Schweizer Bahnen.
