Evidence for this Symbol: The translators use such terms as "Stagnation" or "Obstruction" for the title of this hexagram. What King Wen probably had in mind was the breakage of the great chain of being from Heaven to men, the loss of virtue when the proprieties of human existence were abandoned, and therefore, the occurrence of societal death, well-illustrated by a dried up clump of grass. The disharmony of this state may be expressed by the word "Strife."
