1st & 2nd Generations
FIRST GENERATION
1. JOHN(1) TOWER, b. c.1609, bap. 17 May 1609, Hingham, co. Norfolk, England,[1] d. 13 Feb 1701/02, Hingham, Plymouth Co. @ age 92.[2] He was son of ROBERT(A) & DOROTHY (DAMON) TOWER of Hingham, co. Norfolk. John m. 13 Feb 1638/39, Charlestown, Suffolk Co., MARGARET IBROOK, dau. of RICHARD & MARGARET (--?--) IBROOK, b. c.1617, bap. 3 Sep 1620, Southwold, co. Suffolk, England, d. 15 May 1700, Hingham @ age 83. His remains are bur. in Cohasset Central Cemetery, Hingham.
John Tower became a resident of Hingham in 1637 and was a freeman, 13 Mar 1638/39. Upon his arrival in Hingham he was granted 3 acres of land for a house-lot on Main Street. He also had other lands granted him at subsequent dates. In 1654, his name appears among others from Hingham upon the records of Lancaster. It is doubtful, however, whether he ever resided there. His home place, which has been held in the family names through successive generations and is still recognoized as the "Old Tower Estate", on Main Street, So. Hingham, next south of Garrison House, near Tower's Bridge. On 6 Sep 1657, he puchased of William Cockraine Jr., Atty. land at Great Lot; also at Cooper's Island, in the 2nd precinct. On 18 Apr 1661, he bought of Edward Wilder "planter", a dwelling-house, orchard, etc., with 5 acres of land which were given by the town of Hingham to Martha Wilder, the mother of Edward; also a 3 acre lot, and another lot of 4 acres which the said Edward had previously purchased of Samuel Ward. Also 3 acres of salt-marsh lying in the Conahasset Marshes, next adjoining Henry Chamberlain's. Deed recorded, 13 May1673. In 1645 he was one of the 7 men "chosen out of the body of the town, as well non-freeman as freemen", to order the prudential affairs of the town. "Farmer", or, as he is called in conveyances "planter". He was town "fence-viewer" in 1669.[2]

1747 @ age 80. He was a "Cooper"; had by Margaret, 10 children, all b. Hingham.
iv Jeremiah(2) Tower, b. 9 Mar 1645/46, d. c. 1676, during King Philip's War @ age 31.; m. 28 Oct 1670,
Hingham, Elizabeth Rowlands (wid.). In the inventory of his estate appraised 22 Jan 1676/77, his widow,
returns an account for "clothes which were my first husband's;" refers also to land "which was given my late
husband by his father, John Tower, Sr." Jeremiah was by occupation a "Weaver".

SECOND GENERATION
2. JOHN (2) TOWER Jr.( 1.John(1) ) b. c.1639, bap. 13 Dec 1639, Hingham[3]; d. 30 Aug 1693, Hingham @ age abt. 53; m. 14 May 1669, Braintree, Norfolk Co., SARAH, dau. of JOHN HARDIN, b. England, d. there 16 Oct 1729. He was the oldest son of John(1) Tower and lived in Hingham some 14 years after his marriage, when he removed to Braintree, where he died a few years before his father's death. On 27 Dec 1682, at a town meeting in Hingham, it was voted to sell the wood at a place called "Couper's Island" to such of the proprietors of the adjoining meadows as "will have a part of it...they paying 10 pounds in money." This money the town gave to John Tower Jr., "toward the paying of his purchase of land he bought in Plymouth Colony." It does not appear he settled on this land, but later removed to Braintree.[4]
