The Ibrook Family
Richard Ibrook came to Hingham with his wife, whose name is unknown, and three unmarried daughters, Ellen, Margaret & Rebecca. Ellen m. 1638, Joshua Hobart, a brother of Rev. Peter Hobart; Margaret married John Tower, as indicated previously, and Rebecca married Rev. Peter Hobart. She was his 2nd wife. There appears to be no means for finding the dates of the births of Ellen or Margaret. Rev. Nehemiah Hobart, a grandson of Rev. Peter Hobart and Rebecca (Ibrook) Hobart, has the following among his records, namely: "1693, Sep 9 - Died my Hon. Grandmother, Rebecca Hobart, ae 73, lived in new England 55 years." This would give the date of her coming as 1638, three years subsequent to the date of the grant of a house-lot to her father. The following records are found in Rev. Peter Hobart's diary:
"3 Oct 1642 - Brother Cockram sayled for England."
" 14 Nov 1651 - Mr. Ibrook dyed."
"4 Apr 1664 - Mother Ibrook dyed."
Richard Ibrook left no son, and the name disappears as a surname and has been preserved as a given name among the descendants of his daughters as Ibrook Tower, Ibrook Hobart & Ibrook Whipple.
