You are at http://www.fortunecity.com/millenium/abbeydale/183/hotpad.htm

Materials:
Cotton worsted weight yarn...color A (light colored yarn); color B (contrasting colored yarn)
Crochet Hook Size G (4-4.5mm)

Optional: substitute acrylic worsted weight yarn for cotton yarn-beware of lower melting point with acrylics
Stitch notes: At beg of rows for first space = ch 4, skip 1 ch or 1 dc, dc in next dc
For spaces in middle of rows = ch 1, skip 1 ch or 1 dc, dc in next dc
For blocks = dc in ch-1 sp, dc in next dc or 1 dc in each of next 2 dcs

Front:

Starting at bottom and with color A, ch 42, dc in 6th ch from hook, (ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next ch) across, ch 4, turn. (19 spaces)
Rows 2-20: Follow chart, reading right to left for odd numbered rows and left to right for
even numbered rows.

Example made with Southmaid Cotton 8 and a size D crochet hook.
I could not get all of the potholder centered on my scanner, but the side edges are the same as the top and bottom

After row 20, do not finish off. Turn to work around outside edge as follows: ch 3, 2 dc in corner sp, 1 dc in the end of ea dc row, 1 dc in tops of dcs at ends of rows, 1 dc in ea dc around, 1 dc in ea dc, 1 dc in ea ch-1 sp and 5 dc in ea corner. Continue in this manner around to beg and do 2 dc in same sp as beg (where you did the 2 dcs in corner sp), join, finish off and weave in ends.

Back:

Row 1: With colored yarn, ch 41, dc in 4th ch from hook and in ea ch across, ch 3, turn. (Ch-3 at beg counting as 1 dc)
Rows 2-20: Dc in ea dc across.

After row 20, do not finish off. Work around outside edge as follows: ch 1, 2 sc in corrnerstitch, 1sc in the end of ea dc row, 1 sc in top of dc at ends or rows, 1 sc in ea dc around and 4 sc in ea corner, around to beg, 2 sc in same stitch as beg, join but do not finish off.

Edging:

Rnd 1: With wrong sides together and rows at right angles to each other (Back facing you), sc tog in the backs loops only, picking up loops from both front and back all around, join and turn.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, sc in next sc all around, join with sl st in 1st sc, finish off and weave in
ends.
