Mardi Gras: Commonly called Fat Tuesday - the day before Ash Wednesday and the first day of the Roman Catholic season of Lent.

Corrected version: This is the corrected version of the square which is made with the main colors of Mardi Gras. This is a sampler square I designed specifically for the Afghan 2000 project on the SamplerSquares website http://www.angelfire.com/sc2/samplersqs/Afghan2000.htm.
So, here's a little "lagniappe" for your afghan! What's lagniappe? Why, it means "something extra." :)

Materials: Small amount of worsted weight yarn (purple, yellow and green)
Crochet hook, size F / 5 / 3¾ MM (adjust hook size to obtain gauge if needed)
Gauge: 7 dc = 1½ inches
Finished size: 7 " x 7 "

WITH PURPLE ch 27.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; ch 1, turn (26 sc).
Row 2: Sc in each sc across; ch 4, turn. (26 sc) (counts as dc plus ch-1).
Row 3: Dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc) across ending with 1 dc in last sc; ch 1, turn. (13 sps)
Row 4: (Sc in next sp, sc in next dc) across; ch 1, turn. (26 sc)
Row 5: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn
Row 6: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn.
Row 7: Sc in each sc across and fasten off and end of row.

WITH YELLOW
Row 8: Turn and attach yellow with sl st in same st where fastened off. Ch 4, (dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc) across ending with 1 dc in last sc; ch 1, turn (13 sps).
Row 9: (Sc in next sp, sc in next dc) across; ch 1, turn (26 sc).
Rows 10 - 12: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. (At the end of Row 12, ch 4 to turn).
Row 13: (Dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc) across ending with 1 dc in last sc; fasten off. (13 sps).

WITH GREEN
Row 14: Turn and attach green with sl st in same st where fastened off. (Sc in next sp, sc in next dc) across; ch 1, turn (26 sc).
Rows 15 - 17: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn (at the end of Row 17, ch 4 to turn).
Row 18: (Dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc) across ending with 1 dc in last sc; ch 1, turn (13 sps)
Row 19: (Sc in next sp, sc in next dc) across; ch 1, turn (26 sc)
Row 20: Sc in each sc across. **See notation:

**Note: The next row (Row 21), is optional. At the end of Row 20, measure to see if the square is the same size on width and height. If the square is not as large in height (measuring from Row 1 to Row 20), do Row 21 in either sc's, hdc's or dc's, depending upon your measurements. I had to work Row 21 in dc's when I made my own square.

Row 21: (optional) Work either sc's, hdc's or dc's across. If working sc's, ch 1 at beg of row; ch 2 (for hdc's) and ch 3 (for dc's). Fasten off if color other than green is to be used for edging....or use your imagination and use more than one color.

EDGING:
Using yarn color of your choice, work an edging of sc all around perimeter, making 1 sc in ends of sc rows, 3 sc in ends of dc rows and in each corner, work 2 sc, ch 1, 2 sc. Fasten off and sew in ends.
