|
Materials:Crochet thread size 10 (bedspread weight cotton) Crochet hook size 5 (or any size you are comfortable with using size 10 thread)
Note:This also works up beautifully with DMC Perle cotton and I like to use a size 2 or 3 hook when using perle cotton. A variegated thread looks very pretty when making these tulips as well as a solid colored thread. :)
Center Petal:Starting at center ch 16.
Row 1:Sc in 2nd ch from hook, h dc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next 9 ch, dc in next ch, h dc in next ch, 3 sc in last ch. Now you will start working in rounds.
Rnd 1:Working along opposite side fo starting chain, make sc in each ch across, 3 sc in side of end sc, sc in each st across. Join.
Rnd 2:Ch 3, 3 dc in next sc, * dc in next 2 sc, 2 dc in next sc. Repeat from * around, making 3 dc in center sc of 3-sc group.
Rnd 3:Ch 3, dc in next dc, 5 dc in next dc, * dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, making 5 dc in center dc of next 3-dc group. Join and fasten off.
Side Petal (make 2)Starting at center, ch 22.
Row 1:Sc in 2nd ch from hook, h dc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next 15 ch, dc in next ch, h dc in next ch, 3 sc in last ch. Now you will start working in rounds again.
Rnd 1:Do the same as for round 1 of center petal.
Rnd 2:Do the same as for round 2 of center petal to within last 12 sc at end of the roung, h dc in next sc, sc in next sc, sl st in next sc (inner edge of petal). Fasten off.
Sew 2 side petals to large petal to form a tulip by positioning the center petal under the side petals. You may have to play around with this until you get the petals positioned the way you want them. I will try to scan a picture of this in the future and put it on this web page.
