This is a sampler square I designed specifically for the
Afghan 2000 project on the SamplerSquares website http://www.angelfire.com/sc2/samplersqs/

Materials:
Worsted Weight yarn (Red and White)
Crochet hook, size G/6
Gauge: 4 dc = 1 inch
Finished size: 7 " x 7 "
Special Notes: Always work over unused red yarn when you are working with the white, but do not work over unused white yarn when you are working with the red yarn. This "carries" the red yarn where you need it and it keeps the white yarn near the heart part, so you'll have it there when you make the heart part.

Ch 27 (a little loosely).
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across; ch 3, turn (25 dc) (Beg ch-3 counts as 1 dc).
Row 2: 1 Dc in each dc across; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 3: 1 Dc in each of next 11 dc. To change colors on the 11th dc, YO and do the last pull-thru with the white yarn (change colors using this method throughout pattern); work 1 white dc in next st, change to red (YO and do last pull-thru on white dc), 1 dc in each of next 12 dc; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 4: 1 Dc in each of next 10 dc (change to white), dc in each of next 3 dc (change to red - remember to *not* work over the unused white strand), 1 dc in each of next 11 dc; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 5: 1 Dc in each of next 9 dc (change to white), 1 dc in each of next 5 dc (change to red), 1 dc in each of next 10 dc; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 6: Do 8 red dc, 7 white dc, 9 red dc; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 7: Do 7 red dc, 9 white dc, 8 red dc; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 8: Do 6 red dc, 11 white dc, 7 red dc; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 9: Do 7 red dc, 4 white dc, 1 red dc, 4 white dc, 8 red dc; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 10: Do 8 red dc, 2 white dc, 3 red dc (Note: work over the white yarn with these 3 red dc's), 2 white dc, 9 red dc; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 11: With red, 1 dc in each dc across; ch 3, turn (25 dc).
Row 12: 1 Dc in each dc across; ch 2, turn (25 dc).
Row 13: 1 Hdc in each dc across; ch 1, do not turn but work edging around (25 hdc).

EDGING
Rnd 1: Sc all around perimeter working 2 or 3 sc's in each corner to prevent curling. Join with sl st to 1st sc. Fasten off and sew in ends. :)
