When I was a kid I always heard the Story that My Great Grandfather had come to this country from Germany and when he got off the ship he was handed a gun and told if he wanted to be a citizen he could fight for the Union in the Civil War. Well part of what I was told was true. My search for my ancestors has opened a whole new world for me. My Great Grandfather was August Frank Wolf and he immigrated to the US in the year 1854 with his father Johann David Wolf and His mother Caroline Schwerinstein, He was 15 at the time. The Family arrived in this country in Baltimore, Maryland the 24 Dec. 1854 and the family finally settled in the Chicago IL. area. My Great Grandfather joined the 2nd Light Artillery, Bat. L, in 1863 and was discharged at the end of the war in 1865. He did become a citizen but that was before the war and He is not the only person in my ancestry who fought in the conflict. I had family on both sides and many gave the ultimate sacrifice for their new country. I Found three brothers in one family and a son-in -law who joined the Army in the 121st Ohio Volunteers and only one son came home. This is just the beginning of all I have discovered about my ancestors and so far they have all been hard working honest people who tackled a hard country to make a better life for themselves and their children. Find out about your ancestors and find out for yourself if those stories you have always heard are fact or fiction. It can be lots of fun and very inspirational.

My EXPERIENCES WITH MY GREAT GRANDPA
I Remember Grandpa Garrett with smiles and laughter, he could wiggle his ears and I would just laugh when he did it. He would say "Can you do this?" and the he would wiggle his ears. I would try so hard but of course nothing ever happened. When I think Of him yet today every once in a while I try to wiggle my ears. Grandpa had supper with my family every night. He had been a widower for many years and and lived in a special kingdom in the basement of the home he had built for his beloved wife Mary Emma (Mattie as he called her). I never knew her but my mother said she was a soft spoken gentle woman. I loved to go to Grandpa's house as he had a workshop in the basement where he lived and it was full of magical things. There was even a swing to swing on. It was the only place I have ever seen a swing in the basement just for kids to play on. One day Grandpa came to the house and he had shaved his mustache off and he said to me " I bet you don't know who I am do you?" Of course I knew who he was and was happy to see even with the mustache gone he could still wiggle his ears. When Grandpa Garrett died I was very sad but then I realized he would always be with me as long as I could remember him and I do.
The Newest member of our family, her name is Prudy 2
This picture of Prudy 2 was taken on her first birthday. She is afraid of the flash and hides everytime I get the camera out. I want to thank Don Stelling, Earlene Othling, Helen Schoenfeld, Helen Strine, Mary Poore, Margaret Bucholtz, Will Moneymaker, and many others and especially my family for the help in finding all my Ancestors.
