1. Mary1 Buchanan (George2, William3, John4), daughter of George Buchanan and Esther Campbell, was born in Ireland March 15, 1764. Mary died May 2, 1857 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 93 years of age. Her body was interred.
She married George Eli Benefiel in York Co., PA, 1787. George was born in York Co., PA December 25, 1759. George was the son of Andrew Lee Benefiel. George died April 1, 1832 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 72 years of age. George Benefiel appears in the 1795 tax list for Scott Co., KY. This may be when he first came to Kentucky although that is uncertain. He appears in the tax list for Montgomery County, Kentucky in 1801. He moved to Jefferson County, Indiana in 1814. He served as a private in the Cumberland County, Pennsylvania militia in te Revolutionary War, Captain James Patton's Company, Fourth Battalion.
Mary Buchanan and George Eli Benefiel had the following children:
2 i. Robert Benefiel was born in Kentucky November 29, 1787. Robert died April
8, 1860 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 72 years of age. He married three times. He
married Nancy Stewart in Clark, Kentucky, Usa. Nancy was born April 12, 1793. Nancy died
July 18, 1830 at 37 years of age. He married Amy Ryker in Jefferson
Co., IN, May 12, 1831. Amy was born in Shelby Co., KY ca 1808. Amy was the daughter of
Samuel Ryker and Barbara Fullenwider. Amy died July 13, 1845 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 37
years of age. He married Elizabeth Moore in Ripley Co., IN, December
29, 1845. Elizabeth was born in Kentucky February 28, 1798. Elizabeth died November 3,
1852 at 54 years of age.
3 ii. Martha Benefiel was born in Kentucky March 13, 1789. Martha died December
31, 1878 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 89 years of age. She married John
West in Jefferson Co., IN, January 12, 1816. John was born ca 1787. John died Janaury 20,
1865 at 77 years of age.
4 iii. William Buchanan Benefiel was born in Kentucky Aprril 14, 1791. William
died January 29, 1841 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 49 years of age. He
married Phoebe Connor in Jefferson Co., IN, April 13, 1815. Phoebe was born TN 1795.
Phoebe was the daughter of Lewis Connor. Phoebe died June 21, 1867 in Jefferson Co., IN,
at 71 years of age.
5 iv. Esther Campbell Benefiel was born in Kentucky January 2, 1793. Esther died
March 29, 1872 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 79 years of age. Her body was interred in
Jefferson Co., IN. She married Robert McLelland in Clark, Kentucky,
Usa, January 3, 1814. Robert was born in Kentucky February 14, 1792. Robert was the son of
Alexander McLelland and Isabella Futhey. Robert died July 15, 1855 in Jefferson Co., IN,
at 63 years of age. His body was interred in Jefferson Co., IN.
6 v. George Washington Benefiel was born in Shelby Co., KY January 8, 1795.
George died April 14, 1854 New Market, IN, at 59 years of age. He married twice. He married Anna Ryker in Jefferson Co., IN, August 12, 1816. Anna was
born in Shelby Co., KY ca 1797. Anna was the daughter of Samuel Ryker and Barbara
Fullenwider. Anna died ca 1820. He married Marjorie Van Cleave in
Shelby Co., Ky, August 1, 1825. Marjorie was born November 26, 1801. Marjorie was the
daughter of John Van Cleave and Margery Kerns. Marjorie died February 11, 1873 at 71 years
of age.
7 vi. Mary "Polly" Benefiel was born in Kentucky January 11, 1797.
Mary died August 20, 1882 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 85 years of age. She married twice. She married James McCarty in IN, 1816. James was born ca 1790. James was
the son of William Jackson McCarty. James died ca 1819. She married
Isaiah Stewart in IN, 1820. Isaiah was born in Clark, Kentucky, Usa February 24, 1791.
Isaiah was the son of David Stewart and Henrietta. Isaiah died November 20, 1868 in Shelby
Twp., Jefferson Co., IN, at 77 years of age.
8 vii. Jane Benefiel was born in Kentucky December 8, 1798. She
married Isaac Vannice in Jefferson Co., IN, September 6, 1832.
9 viii. Jesse Benefiel was born in Bourbon Co., KY October 26, 1800. Jesse died
May 18, 1891 in Ripley Co., IN, at 90 years of age. He married Sarah
Ann Huckstep in Jefferson Co., IN, April 6, 1824. Sarah was born October 7, 1806. Sarah
died October 11, 1893 in Ripley Co., IN, at 87 years of age.
10 ix. Wilson B. Benefiel was born in Kentucky November 18, 1802. Wilson died
1850 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 47 years of age. He married Eliza
Buchanan Switzerland Co., IN, April 30, 1831. Eliza was born ca 1816. Eliza was the
daughter of John Buchanan and Rachel.
11 x. James C. Benefiel was born in Kentucky May 11, 1806. James died May 31,
1886 Barbersville, IN, at 80 years of age. He married Elizabeth S.
Taylor in Jefferson Co., IN, February 5, 1829. Elizabeth was born in Kentucky October 14,
1804. Elizabeth died July 22, 1891 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 86 years of age.
12 xi. Samuel M. Benefiel was born in Bourbon Co., KY May 11, 1806. Samuel died
February 25, 1867 in IN, at 60 years of age. He married twice. He
married Nancy M. Taylor in Jefferson Co., IN, February 6, 1829. Nancy was born in Kentucky
1804. Nancy died July 14, 1833 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 29 years of age. He
married Elizabeth Caldwell Boone Co., IN, March 19, 1835. Elizabeth was born in Kentucky
May 23, 1815. Elizabeth was the daughter of Alexander Caldwell III and Hannah B. Sample.
Elizabeth died June 28, 1903 in Linn Co., MO, at 88 years of age.
13 xii. Eliza S. "Betsy" Benefiel was born in Bourbon Co.,
KY June 16, 1808. Eliza died February 14, 1891 Barbersville, IN, at 82 years of age. She married Powell Russell in Jefferson Co., IN, August 11, 1841. Powell
was born in New Jersey December 26, 1810. Powell died March 19, 1876 in Jefferson Co., IN,
at 65 years of age.
14. George2 Buchanan (William3, John4) was born Romelt, County Donegal, Ireland 1721. George died 1818 in Jefferson Co., IN, at 97 years of age. His body was interred in Jefferson Co., IN.
He married twice. He married Esther Campbell in Ireland. Esther died ca 1773 in Ireland. He married unknown ca 1774. George Buchanan was born in County Donegal, Ireland about 1721. He married Esther Campbell in Ireland where she died. He immigrated to York County, Pennsylvania with his children about 1774. He remarried probably about 1774 and had more children. The name of his second wife is not known. In 1790 he moved to Kentucky from Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He is listed in the tax list for Woodford County, Kentucky in 1792, 1793, 1794, and 1795. He moved to Jefferson County, Indiana in 1813 where he died in 1818. He served as a Private in the 5th Pennsylvania Continental Line in the Revolutionary War.
