March-August 2001: Fun With Lynn--- Lynn and I travelled out of state together a lot this year. View some snapshots of DC, San Diego, Tombstone, Pioneer Village and Phoenix in the Photo Gallery 3.

September 2000: North of Phoenix Drive--- I took a short drive to Cave Creek and Carefree. Examine the Photo Gallery 2.

May/June 2000: Tempe Lake--- I've put together a page of photos and notes about my weekly trips to Tempe Lake for biking and rowing. Examine the Photo Gallery 1.

March 2000: Indian Art--- I've gone to a couple of art fairs recently, looking for some southwestern Indian stuff to decorate my apartment. I found a few nice items, including a Kachina doll!

March 2000: Chandler Ostrich Festival---I went to the far side of the metropolitan area to see what all the fuss was about. It was more like a county fair with all the carnival rides and food booths, but they did actually ride a few ostriches!

central canal February 2000--I try to do some bike riding every weekend. The two spots I usually ride are along the central canal in Phoenix, and at Tempe Lake. The canal is flat and calm, has virtually no shade, but leads to Squaw Peak, which is a major recreation and picnic spot in the city.

May 1999: Casa Grande--Drove down south about an hour to the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. The Casa Grande structure is four stories high and 60 feet long, the largest structure known to have existed in the times the Hohokam Indians lived in the area.

Casa Grande Ruins

The Hohokam culture dates back centuries, but the Casa Grande structure and surrounding village were built in the 1300s. European explorers discovered it in 1694, already abandoned.

In 1892 the Casa Grande Ruins became the nation's first archaeological preserve, after souvenir hunters started picking the site to pieces.

BT Arboretum

An hour to the north and east is the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. This outdoor nursery has a large variety of desert plants and several trails that lead through the clusters of cacti and other desert plants.
