Photo Gallery --- September 2000: North of Phoenix Drive text and photos by RWA
Cave Creek is a very small town just
a few miles north of Phoenix. At the center is this old-west street with
a tavern, fountain square and tourist shops.
A few miles further up is the town
of Carefree,
which has a shopping plaza with a huge sundial.
As you can see, there's a "sun"
sculpture hanging from the shadow arm. The arm is about 40 feet long.
Driving south
from Carefree, in northern Scottsdale is the old-west themetown of Rawhide.
Indian and Spanish dancers perform along with the standard old-west
shoot-outs.
I did rock climb at Rawhide. It's
only about 20 feet to the top, but even the "easy" section
wore me out.
I didn't get far up the "moderate" side.
Okay, this is way north of Phoenix, in Las Vegas, in front of the Paris Hotel Casino. But we were there in September!
