Erik

Erik is the only boy in our family. He was born February 15, 1994.

Erik is a very intelligent boy and is looking forward to starting kindergarten in July, 1999. But he's not the type to let anything hold him back. Even though he isn't in school yet, he has been in pre-school since January 1998. He had been working diligently with learning his letters and sounds both in pre-school and at home.

It has been very common for him out of the clear blue to say something like "Do you spell truck, T-R-U-K?" We have been very excited by his love for learning. He was able to sound out an occasional word on a sign and read it to us. In May 1999 he surprised us all. He picked up a book and read it to us! Since that first time he has read many books to us.

He especially likes to read Dr. Seuss books because of the made-up words. He'll sound them out and when he finds a funny word he'll laugh at it...a lot.

This is a sample of his artwork. He was watching Heather draw some cartoon characters one day and decided that he would give it a try.

I'm sure that you recognize this as Dilbert.

He even signed his name and dated it.

 Erik's First Day of T-Ball

Erik has been looking forward to playing t-ball for some time now. In May his rookie league started up. Here he is before his first practice.

 To start with half of the team lines up for batting practice, while the rest of the team goes into the field to practice catching and throwing.

While standing in line Erik looks like he's giving the rest of the team a few pointers.

 After everybody gets a few good hits in, it's time to go out into the field to practice catching and throwing.

 Erik has been camping a couple of times. He really loved it. When he can't do the real thing he settles for camping with Amy in the back yard.
