On the way to visit Laura's great uncle we stopped off on the way in Edinburgh. We had planned to spend a few hours there before continuing our journey.

We needed to check our luggage at the train station. There we met this man. He was very friendly and funny.

He wanted someone from Hollywood to discover him.

The city of Edinburgh is built on two large hills. The railroad station lies in the bottom of a long deep valley, which separates the old and new sections of Edinburgh. A bridge spans this deep gorge.

Here is a picture of the new section of town, taken from the bridge, near the railway station.

This photo was taken form about the same spot, looking back over the bridge toward the old city. The streets of the old city are steep, narrow, and winding.
More of the old city, taken again from the same spot.
To give you an idea of the area surrounding Edinburgh. There are numerous large outcroppings of volcanic rock in the area. Most of the old city, including Edinburgh Castle is built on this type of a formation. In fact I am standing on a similar one as I take this picture.
