Our Itinerary

This is a day-by-day overview of what we did and where we went during our week in Belgium and the Netherlands. Armed with our five-day unlimited travel rail passes, we are prepared to cover a lot of ground.

 Day 1

We arrived in Brussels in the evening. We stayed at a hotel near the airport. When we arrived, there was just enough time to get to the hotel, grab a quick bite and catch some sleep.

Day 2

We got up early and took the train to Antwerp, where we spent a couple of hours wandering around and enjoying the sights. Shortly after lunch time we hopped back on the train and continued on to Amsterdam, arriving in the late afternoon.

 Day 3

We spent the entire day in Amsterdam. We strolled up the Damrak, saw the Anne Frank House, the homes of our grandparents, the Onze Lieve Heer op Zolder church, took a rondvaart in one of the canal boats, and much, much more.

 Day 4

We wandered through the Jordaan district of Amsterdam and then boarded a train for Leiden. In Leiden we visited some of Karen's old friends, climbed to the top of a windmill, and had a great dinner of pannekoeken.

 Day 5

Early in the morning we boarded a train out of Amsterdam and headed south. We stopped in Roosendaal to change trains. We then headed west, to Goes. There we got on a bus, crossed the Zeelandbrug and arrived in Zierikzee. We spent several hours wandering through the streets of this old city.

Then we retraced our tracks back to Roosendaal and headed south, arriving in Ghent, Belgium late that evening.

 Day 6

We spent the morning seeing the sights in Ghent. In the afternoon we got on the train and headed for Bruges, where we stayed until late in the evening, before heading back to Ghent.

 Day 7

It all went by so fast. We attend church services in Ghent. Then it's back on the train again for a trip to Brussels. We do some sightseeing there in the pouring rain. We then board the train one final time for the trip to the airport to go back home.
