John Layton, 89, died in his home at Hanoverton Thursday afternoon, November 29. He was a Civil war veteran and one of the oldest residents in this community. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Charles Cable and Mrs. John Miller, both of Minerva; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Rebecca Wolf, 86, died from the infirmities of old age at her home near Mineral City on Wednesday, November 28. Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Reformed church in Mineral City by Rev. Rohrbaugh of New Bedford. Mrs. Wolf is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Henry Gsell and Mrs. Mary Dine, both of Mineral City.

Mrs. Sarah Watts, 63, died Friday, November 30, at her home in Morges. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Secrist, Mrs. Daniel Locker, both of Morges and Mrs. Gertrude Eddy of Akron; two sons, Charles of Morges and Robert of Lindentree. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church in Waynesburg with Rev. Dunn officiating. Interment was made in the Waynesburg cemetery.

Robert C. Jones, 58, of Canton, died suddenly Saturday morning from a heart attack. He was formerly a resident of Waynesburg. For many years he was a member of the Snavely-Jones undertaking company of Canton. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Elson Jones; one daughter, Pauline; and two sons, Robert C., Jr. and Charles D., all of Canton; two brothers, Dr. Clem R. Jones and Harry M. Jones, both of Pittsburgh. Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon with Rev. Birchard Brundage in charge and burial was made in the Waynesburg cemetery.

Dr. A. C. Ball
Dr. A. C. Ball, 66, born at Augusta and for more than thirty years a prominent physician and resident of Alliance, died at his home in that city Friday afternoon, November 30. For the past year he had been failing in health. The deceased was a graduate of the Western Reserve medical college, practicing medicine first at Hicksville, Kent and Dayton prior to locating in Alliance. He was noted as a leader in fraternalism; a member of the Masonic, Elk, Eagle and Moose orders, having served his local Masonic and Elk lodges as their highest official. He was well known as a speaker at various fraternal gatherings. Dr. Ball was also identified with the Presbyterian church. A widow and step-son, of Alliance; a sister-in-law and three nieces, residing at Kent, survive. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Alliance Masonic temple, with the order in charge.

Mrs. John Blausenhauer
Mrs. John Blausenhauer, 62, died early Sunday morning at her home on Sterling-ave. She was born October 2, 1866, in the Rhein Providence in Germany and emigrated to this country at the age of twenty-three. She first took up her residence in East Liverpool and later, in 1904, she came to Carrollton. In 1890 the deceased was united in marriage to John Blausenhauer, who survives together with a brother living in Germany; a sister in San Antonio, Texas; and ten children, Mrs. Frank Zimmerman of Canton, Mrs. Ray Sheldon of Industry, Pa., Mrs. Lawrence Workman of Canton, Mrs. William Weekly of Scio, Mrs. Arthur Mann of Carrollton, Otto of Mineral City, Victor of Brooklyn, N. Y., Leo of Canton, Carol of Carrollton and Elizabeth of the home. Eighteen grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Lutheran church with Rev. Earl Stainbrook officiating. Burial was made in Grandview.

Homer C. Brown
Homer C. Brown, 85, died Tuesday, November 27, at the Soldier's Home in Sandusky. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Mr. Brown was born in Washington-tp June 13, 1843. He was among the first to enlist from Carrollton at the outbreak of the Civil War, serving in Company 1 of the 98th Regiment. He was the last member of his company. When the war was ended he sought his fortune in the west and the greater part of his life was spent in travel. He had many interesting experiences to relate of his life as a stage driver in Texas, Arizona and Utah; as a gold miner in Colorado' as a lumberman in Oregon and as a rancher in Washington. Mr. Brown has resided in almost every state in the west. He was married in Arizona and to this union were born six children, three of whom died in infancy. A son, Charles, died in 1919 from the effects of gas received during his service in the World War. Mr. Brown is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Millicent Rekdahl of Kimberly, British Columbia, and Mrs. Hattie Evans of Portland, Ore; also by two half-brothers, John and David Shultz, of Carrollton; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Margaret Roos, of Carrollton and Mrs. Della Vinton, of New Philadelphia. Funeral services were conducted Friday, November 30, but Rev. Earl Stainbrook at the home and interment was made in Grandview.

Mrs. Anna Morehead, 69, of Minerva, died at her home Monday morning, December 3 after a long illness. She was the wife of Selkirk Morehead and they celebrated their golden wedding on Mon. Nov. 26, one week prior to her death. Surviving are the husband and two brothers, Charles and William Rue of Minerva. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday and burial was made at East Lawn cemetery

Joseph Fawcett Hays, 63, died at Columbus on Monday morning at 3:45 after an illness of more than five weeks. He was a former resident of Carrollton and was well known in this community. Mr. Hays was associated with the law firm of Williams, Nash, Hays and Thomas at Columbus. He is survived by his wife who was formerly Miss Jessie Raley; three children and a brother, William Hays of Columbus. I. R. Holmes is a brother-in-law of the deceased. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday afternoon and interment was made at Columbus. He was a son of the late Thomas Hays, Carrollton attorney and for a period editor of The Carroll Chronicle.

Lannes L. Ferrall
Lannes L. Ferrall, 67, died early Sunday morning at his home in Phoenix, Arizona, following an operation. He was born in Carrollton, April 11, 1861, being a son of Edwin and Mary Ferrall. In 1882 Mr. Ferrall left Carroll-co and established his home in the west. As an engineer he was actively engaged in the building of the Mexican Central railroad from El Paso to the City of Mexico and later associated himself with other railroads under construction. For many years he was registrar and receiver of the Untied States land office at Phoenix. He also served at one time as postmaster at Grand Canyon, Arizona. Mr. Ferrall was united in marriage to Louisa Buggelin at Williams, Arizona some forty years ago. Fraternally he was a member of the Masonic Shrine at Phoenix and a Knight of Pythias. Mr. Ferrall is survived by his wife and two brothers, Anson E. Ferrall of Phoenix and Judge Junius C. Ferrall of Carrollton.

Leander W. Hawk, 86, died Wednesday, December 7, at Sebring. Death was due to paralysis. He was born in Carroll-co, November 10, 1842, a son of Rosanna and John Hawk. Mr. Hawk was married January 22, 1885 at Norristown to Miss Elizabeth Willard who preceded him in death not long ago, having died on October 4, 1922. He is survived by two sons, Leslie of Sebring, at whose home he died and Wilson of Minerva; one daughter, Mrs. Alverda Borland of Dell Roy; two brothers, Adison of Canton and William of Jewett; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Salmon of Jewett. He is also survived by four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Reformed church Sunday afternoon with Rev. E. C. Klotz in charge. Interment was made in Grandview.

Mrs. P. D. Barnes, 50, of Washington-tp, died Monday morning at 5:45 in Mercy hospital following an operation for tumor. Mrs. Barnes, whose maiden name was Anna J. Gamble, was born in Harrison-co April 15, 1878, the daughter of John and Mary Bell Gamble. She was married at her home on February 20, 1896, to P. d. Barnes. Mrs. Barnes was a resident of this county for 18 years, the family moving here from Monroe-tp, Harrison-co to the farm five miles east of town. Her last illness was of four years duration, but her condition did not become serious until the Sunday prior to her death. She was taken to the hospital on Wednesday and an operation was performed the following day. Besides her husband, Mrs. Barnes is survived by a son, John Dallas Barnes, living at the home farm; two sisters, Mrs. William Sickles, of Sherodsville, and Mrs. Wilbur tope, of Palermo; two brothers, J. G. Gamble, of Scio, and H. R. Gamble of Sherodsville and her father, who makes his home with his children. The body was brought to the Blazer funeral room on Monday morning and removed in the afternoon to the home from which the funeral was held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Church of Christ and the services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Stanley Johnson. Burial was made at Mt. Olivet.

Nora May Tinlin, 50, wife of Postmaster H. O. Tinlin, died suddenly at her home on Monday morning from heart disease. She was born on May 16, 1878, near Wilmot, in Wayne-co, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Platt. In 1894 she came with her parents to Carrollton, where her father was in charge of the first electric lighting plant installed here. Mrs. Tinlin graduated from Carrollton high school in the class of 1897. She was married in Cincinnati on May 5, 1904, to H. O. Tinlin. For many years Mrs. Tinlin was prominent in social and fraternal activities in Carrollton. She was the first Noble Grand to be installed in the local chapter of the Rebekah lodge. Mrs. Tinlin is survived by her husband, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Platt of Hamilton, and one brother Alva L. Platt, of Newark. A sister, Erma, died 30 years ago. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal church, with Rev. W. S. Rowe officiating. Rev. B. J. Yorke, Rev. E. G. Klotz and Rev. John H. Butler, her former pastor, of Lodi, assisted with the services. Interment was made in Grandview.

Mary Alice Crowl, 60, died at her home one and a half miles west of Minerva, on Thursday evening, December 13, after an illness of two weeks. She is survived by her husband, Frank Crowl; three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Elton, Mrs. Bessie Ecrement, of Canton and Pauline of the home; one son, Clarence, also of the home; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth maple of Carrollton; two brothers, Jason Barnhouse of Carrollton and John Barnhouse of Perrysville. Funeral services were held from the Church of Christ at Minerva, Sunday afternoon with Rev. J. W. Funk officiating. Burial was made in the Liberty cemetery, near Minerva.

Mrs. Catherine Kreiger, 74, died on Monday, December 17th, at her home in Malvern. She was born in Germany in May, 1854, and came to this country in 1870, settling in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was married to Earnest Kreiger in 1884. They moved to Malvern in 1903. Besides the husband, one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Reinhardt of Floressa, Pa., five grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive. The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon from the home with Rev. P. P. Wilt officiating. Interment was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Two Killed in Crash
John Shroyer, 23, and Francis Murray, 24, both of Mineral City were drowned early Sunday morning in Huff Run. The accident occurred near Mineral City, as the two youths, accompanied by George Shroyer, 19, were returning home. The younger Shroyer's lungs were filled with water, but he otherwise escaped injury. The car dropped six feet from a log bridge into four feet of water. The victims were pinned beneath the automobile.

Port C. Baxter
Port C. Baxter, well known and highly esteemed citizen of Carrollton died from cerebral hemorrhage on Friday afternoon, December 21. Death took place at the Atkinson home on Second-st S. W. Mr. Baxter was the oldest native citizen of Carrollton. He was born August 7, 1848, in an old log cabin which stood on the site now occupied by the J. R. Williams residence on Main-st. He was the son of William and Elizabeth Baxter and one of a family of six children; three brothers, Morris, Clark and John, and two sisters, Margaret and Eliza Jane, all of whom are deceased. Mr. Baxter passed his early life and youth in Carrollton and saw much of the early life here. On July 8, 1871 he was married to Mary Jane Cotter at New Harrisburg and to them was born one son, Dwight. From 1875 to 1882 Mr. Baxter served as a clerk in the Senate at Washington. Mrs. Baxter died May 5, 1896 at Caldwell, where Mr. Baxter had conducted a general store for a period of eight years. After the death of his wife he returned with his son to Carrollton where he again associated himself with the mercantile business. This enterprise was brought to an unfortunate end when his entire stock of goods was destroyed in the disastrous fire which broke out in the Borden block some seven years ago. In this fire Mr. Baxter suffered the loss of many valuable photographs which he himself had take many years ago. Following this he retired from the business world. On the morning of the day of his death Mr. Baxter attended to his duties as usual. He cleared a light fall of snow from the pavement in front of the Atkinson residence, later doing the same at the Matechek building. Later in the morning he felt a slight spell or dizziness and retired to his home where he was discovered soon afterward in a weakened condition. Friends were summoned, together with a doctor, and Mr. Baxter was made to retire to his room. He continued to converse intelligently until just before his death, which was at 1 o'clock. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church under supervision of Rev. J. B. Yorke on Monday afternoon. Interment was made in Grandview cemetery where his wife was buried thirty-two years ago. He leaves to mourn his loss, one son, Dwight of Carrollton; two granddaughters, Mrs. James Rutledge of Carrollton and Mrs. Elbridge Sells of Porterville, Calif. Four great grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Joseph R. Carson, 63, of Paris, died at her home on Sunday evening, December 23. She is survived by four sons, William of Bergholz; George, of Canton; Charles, of Minerva, and Joseph E. of East Canton; three daughters, Mrs. Della Slates, of Mechanicstown; Mrs. Lela Adams, of Muncie, Ind., and Mrs. Fred Maurer of Minerva. The funeral was held on Wednesday at the home and burial was made in Liberty cemetery at Paris.

George Homer Kimmel
George Homer Kimmel, 68, died at Mercy hospital in Canton on Saturday December 22. He was the son of Henry and Catherine Kimmel and was born near Scio on August 15, 1860. On April 17, 1890 he was united in marriage with Mary Albaugh of Kilgore, who preceded him in death about two years ago. Mr. Kimmel married Jennie Copeland of Tappan on June 14, 1928, who survives, together with two half-sisters and two half-brothers.

John B. Allison
John B. Allison, 48, of Salineville died at his home Saturday morning, December 15. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Ola Kellog, and six children: Orliff Allison, of Highlandtown; Miss Mabel Allison, Benjamin; Ruth and Paul at home; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Allison, Salineville; two brothers, Ross and Frank of Salineville; Four sisters, Mrs. Belle Barcus and Mrs. Jesse Dilley of Youngstown and Mrs. Mabel Lang of Salineville; one grandchild also survives. Funeral services were conducted at the home on Monday with Rev. R. G. Keevill in charge. Burial was made in the Woodland cemetery.

Jacob Locker, 84, a veteran of the Civil war, died Saturday morning, December 22, at his home near Morges from pneumonia. He is survived by five sons, George of New York; John of New England; Louis of Magnolia; Carl of Waynesburg and Daniel of the home. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the home and burial was made in the Magnolia cemetery.

Alexander H. McDannel
Alexander H. McDannel, 83, lifelong resident of Waynesburg, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 25, in the home of his son, Amos McDannel, at Canton. Death resulted from the complication s of old age. Mr. McDannel was a veteran of the Civil war. He is survived by the following children, Mrs. Ed Van Voorhis, of east Canton; Mrs. Lewis S. Hershey of Louisville, Mrs. B. C. Deckard, and Amos McDannel, of Canton; Orin of Waynesburg; Melvin and Mrs. Ethel Geib of Canton. Funeral services will be held by Rev. P. H. Welshimer at the First Christian church on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in Indian Run cemetery.

Accident Is Fatal
Mrs. William P. Brown, 60, of Beaver, Pa., was drowned in a lake near Clermont, Fla., on Saturday, December 22. Her death resulted from an automobile accident, the details of which are not known. Mrs. Brown was born near New Cumberland. She was a sister of Frank and Richard McClelland of New Cumberland.
